[ If it helps, all Katsuki talked Izuku out of was the tentative idiocy of thinking anyone actually was interested in going on a date with him. He's kind of thinking Katsuki brought up classmates who might actually want to go out with him as contrast of "as opposed to me" and he's probably going to feel worse about that later when he's alone and the sheer joy of being out with a friend wears off.

He got dressed up for a first date he wasn't actually having, but Katsuki isn't making a big deal about it and thankfully is going along with pretending Izuku didn't badly misjudge what they agreed to, so it's easy to smile because that's a kindness he didn't expect.

He thinks it's nice that Katsuki's being kind about it and he's grateful for that. He probably deserved a little bit less nice. ]

I'm really fine with anything. It's just...nice to have people to hang out with.

[Considering Jirou had been on his team during the joint training, she should already know how Katsuki operates. And Izuku... well Izuku knows Katsuki well enough, but it's not like they've ever been on cooperative teams before, much less on cooperative terms, due to Katsuki's unwillingness. A few emergency examples forced to exist despite his humiliation and rage over having to accept it. But all that's for another time.

And no, that doesn't help. Then again, Katsuki's been conscious and unconsciously hammering away at Izuku's self esteem forever, so why not have another bout of it here? The real reason he brought up their classmates' prospective dating of Izuku is because... well... because he knows this is all going to go away when they return home. These feelings, their relationship, the improvements and changes and those deeper feelings he wants to deny. They'll be gone, reset back to the moment they left. Dating Izuku won't... even be a thing in his mind. Perhaps he wanted to somehow give that tiny bit of concern some solace that there might be someone waiting to make Izuku feel valuable in the "date" way back home.

But the road to hell is paved with good intentions. It'd been a selfish question as well; maybe he's getting what he deserves for even popping it. Never has been good with emotional talk.

Whether he really considers this a true "date" or not is something he's trying to wrestle with. Because in his mind, "dating" means romance. And... he's barely moving back into thinking of Izuku as a friend. Jumping from ten years of animosity to a year where bitter enemy turned to rivals to friend-in-denial to friend... that's a very large hurdle to consider. What he does know is that he wants this time alone with Izuku. He wants to go out with him to do something with him alone. That, at least, is... something.

He'll have to think about shit later.]

Hmph. You really are the popular guy in class. A lot of them rally around you.

[ It's not something to worry about now, anyway. Izuku asked, haltingly, for a date because Katsuki said he could, but...it's easy for him to believe he misunderstood, and that Katsuki is only trying to get along with him in the way he actually wanted to start with: rebuilding that friendship of theirs.

Izuku's okay to be friends with (!) and okay to fuck, but he's not up to scratch for dating (probably Katsuki would only actually like someone way more attractive and stronger, with several other classmates higher in the running even without being around, if he even liked a classmate), and he feels guilty for considering it at all a possibility. He's the only one prone to getting attached, and he has to work on getting less attached in the dangerous way and focus on the positive bonds he wants even more.

He won't push Katsuki anywhere near that hurdle again on his own, which makes things a lot simpler in some ways and more difficult in others that he has to figure out later.

Izuku just smiles again, sort of a little embarrassed about the comment. ]

Not really. I get along with people, but that isn't really popularity.

[He has to tell himself that a few times to finally force himself to get over the issue. Even if things kind of stumbled, at the vert least, they can still have an afternoon together. Escape room and dinner and whatever else they might do afterwards. Arcade, maybe even go to the bar.

Izuku did ask for a date and he has a date; it's just not the kind he thought it was. And that's okay. They have time to grow and develop whatever this is between them. Nothing wrong with repairing friendship first... It'd be stupid to date someone you weren't friends with, right?

As for who and what Katsuki likes... that's Katsuki's business and Deku shouldn't be assuming that kind of shit about him. Because as far as that coin goes, no one would look at Izuku and think Katsuki would be his ideal partner. (So long as they weren't in the know about their history or Izuku's obvious desire for connection with the blonde.) Personality-wise, they clash a lot.

There's a small part of Katsuki that wonders if Izuku's interest in him is honestly an interest or if it's an intense leftover, perhaps even a conditioned response, to long for the boy who left him behind in friendship so long ago. After spending all that time wanting to be close to him, wanting him back... is it possible for him to even look at someone else? And does Deku even realize it could be that? Who knows.

Something he'll think about on his own and deal with as shit arrives. They'll come to this hurdle again, especially since Katsuki's a little more open towards making first moves now.]

[Thinking so lowly of himself he can't even recognize the effect he has on the others in his own class.]

[ In a lot of ways, Izuku doesn't believe he deserves them. After everything, it's still difficult to believe that foundation can't be shaken. If he relies on them too much or asks for too much...

...sometimes he forgets to be careful, and it worries him that he hasn't been as careful as he should be with Katsuki. He can't afford to mess this up again. ]

[One or two aren't so bad and he's obviously improved a lot on how he truly views them, despite what he often says and feels about them. Izuku once again passes off his own influence on their classmates because he simply can't see himself as ever being important to someone.

What the hell? Careful?! You don't NEED to be careful with him! He's not some fragile shitty piece of glass! Is this another time where he's gonna think Izuku dissing him or some shit?! Good thing they can't read minds.]

Ahaha...sorry about that. [ He'd earlier said he was allowed to be sappy today, but that's not exactly true anymore. ]

Anyway, looks like the stop's right there. It shouldn't be too long a ride, we'll definitely make the first time slot on time.

We've had longer bus rides back home. It won't kill us.

Once the bus does come, Izuku will pay for one passenger after boarding, letting Katsuki handle himself. ]

[Lbr, he bitches about shit a lot if he's prompted to talk with regularity. Hell, usually it takes a round of bitching to get it out of the way before normal conversation comes out.

Katsuki passes over the pay after Izuku and then follows him onto the bus. Well, only a few minutes in and the proverbial boat's rocked. Not overturned like it has in the past, but definitely shaky.

He'll take the aisle seat though.]

Did you ever look into these back home?

No, it didn't really seem like something mom would enjoy and there were minimum group requirements of two people at the ones I heard about.

[ He's sure his mother would have gone to any of the various activities he didn't engage in during middle school if he'd asked, but that would have just made her sad to have to be asked...so he didn't. ]

[That makes sense. Katsuki props his foot up against the back of the seat in front of him like a true delinquent and slouches a little cause he feels like it. Not cause there's some guilty regret plaguing him over the shit life his actions gave Izuku back home.]

We should do one when we get back home.

[ It's a little bit pathetic the only way Izuku could complete the minimum requirement back then was by asking his mom, but he doesn't sound mad or upset about it or anything. He just kind of laughs. ]

I don't think you'd want to do that, Kacchan. Maybe one of the others will suggest it sometime and drag us along though.

[Of course he doesn't sound mad or upset. It's ridiculous that he's never once attacked or vented on Katsuki for everything he put him through. Likely never will no matter what happens. He's content to wash it over like it never happened.]

Maybe. We won't remember this when we go back, so it'll be random chance.

Then why say we should? [ Katsuki's the one who brought it up, and Izuku's smile is maybe a little puzzled. ]

You won't want to do things with me when we're there again, but I won't remember you tolerating it now. So it won't be something that I'll even know to miss and it won't be something that you'll know to mind.

In those cases I just happened to be there or you were mostly interested in All Might...I mean, we can have normal conversations back home these days, and that's more than I could have ever asked for.

[ He's already said before he'd like to remember, but Katsuki hasn't before. Usually he just says they can't. ]

I definitely wouldn't be thinking about going to an escape room with you. But it's nice to do it here.

[As their "normal" conversation gets a bit pitched on Katsuki's side. Which... is normal. He's still giving Izuku the stink eye, like he's affronted the other boy thinks so low of him. Even though Katsuki's got no one to blame but himself for those thoughts.

Anyways... probably shouldn't have said that up there.]

We don't even know what's going to happen after that war.

[Katsuki knows Izuku survives, but he never asked about himself, even though his pride instantly rages a few puncture wounds wouldn't be anywhere near enough to kill him.]

[ Katsuki isn't the one he's thinking of in a lower way, and he looks mostly apologetic when Katsuki starts growling. ]

No, we don't.

[Not convincing him of that with such an answer, but he gets off the topic anyways and shoves his hands into his pockets.]

Yes. [ Same reason he wanted to tell All Might. Izuku doesn't expand on it for that reason; he's looking out the window now, idly.

It's not really fun to think about home. Things aren't good there, and he feels guilty for going out to just have fun when things are so bad where they came from...

So the smile is gone, at least, and now it's just a little worried frown. ]

[It's not a topic that Katsuki breeches very often for the same reasons. Always casts a pallor over whatever they're doing. But it's also one of the few things they can agree on and have some semblance of an uncombative conversation.

Katsuki gazes at the seat back in front of him, losing himself in thought for a while. There are people he wants to see at home, things he wants to know. And yet part of him wonders if it would be good to know despite his mind immediately answering the same way Izuku had. What would it hurt to know what happened? Not like they could do anything about it here.

But if he tells Izuku he survived, the other boy would end up needlessly fretting over whether Katsuki made it or not. It'd lead to more troubling emotions.]

Maybe someone will come a lot further ahead of us.

[ But whether that would be good or bad remains to be seen. He's already so worried about all of it. What happened after that battle?

Izuku slumps in his seat, mentally replaying it again for the millionth time.

Here, he can't do anything about it. And the things he does and cares about here matter only to him, and only so long as he's here.

...so he's thoroughly out of good cheer for the time being as he frets, and they're at least in agreement on that. It does mean he lets Katsuki sit in silence without trying to pick the conversation up again to fill the ride with chatter, though, so there's that upside. ]

[It's the upside. He's left dealing with his own thoughts. Some of it going back home to the war, wondering what else the villains were going to pull out of their fucking bag before everything was over. Some of it was about his life here and how things with Izuku never lose their turbulence. It can seem to be going so well, but one word or comment wrong can end up blowing up and sending the entire thing shaking. Not exactly unusual for them. And still other thoughts go internal towards himself, picking at his own issues and wondering what developments here versus those potentials back are going to result in. He won't take anything from here back to their world, so... is that a good thing or a bad thing? He'll lose a lot... but who knows what happens in the future?

It's an unfortunate melancholy bus ride on what should've been their first date. Katsuki has to wrestle with that thought too. Playing back things in his head, what was said and what was assumed to be inferred from those words. Fretting isn't going to help either of them.

He looks out the window, watching the scenery go by. Well... it is near Halloween. Why not have ghosts come out of the past and haunt the present?]

[ In a better mood Izuku would probably be making Katsuki's mood worse by trying to talk about anything and everything to come to mind, or enthusiastically chattering about what they were going to do, but he just stays silent and leaves Katsuki to his thoughts. It's never something that can make things worse - Katsuki tells him often enough to stop talking or talk less, so Izuku knows it's actually preferred and just tends to be bad at sticking to it.

He'll only move once they're at the right stop, checking the tickets again just to be certain he has them in order. He kind of wishes again they'd invited other people; it's easier to navigate a group than a single person, sometimes. You can fade into the chaos with the former, and with the latter you're all too aware of your shortcomings when they stare you in the face.

He works up a smile for the bus driver when he disembarks, though. ]
