Why don't we just go about this the same way we talked about house rules? We told each other what we wanted from it and agreed or made changes based on what we felt like we could agree to, right? L-like, you said you didn't want anyone else living with us and I said okay but we made rules where they could stay in emergencies or on arrival for a bit. And I said I didn't want us sleeping with anyone else in the house and you said okay.

[ Maybe if they do it like that he'll at least know what the hell Katsuki wants from him. And vice versa. ]

[The answer's "yes" so then how the fuck does he not know what dating turns into? Katsuki scowls at him, not even sure how to begin to go about explaining that and certainly not wanting to. Ultimately Izuku's the one to break the confused silence and he crosses his arms over his chest.]

[ Presumably, the fact they're sort of acknowledging they want to, but Izuku isn't sure the date can survive the accusation that Katsuki has feelings.

There is no difference! It's the same damn thing under a troublesome label. They've gone surfing before, swimming, drinking, exploring, eating, beaching, sparring, arcading---hell, they went to a god damn fucking formal dinner!! If anything was going to be a date, THAT ONE SHOULD'VE COUNTED!!]

[Again, muttered at both of them. Already he can see (knows) the difference, and how stupid it is, and the potential mixups thanks to this damn place.]

[ Izuku stops fidgeting, or tries to. He knows how it's different for him. He does.

[ Because there's a difference, he knows there is, between dating and hanging out. ] I, I don't know what we're doing but I want you to only do whatever it is with me while we figure it out.

[ The part that actually matters to him is the part he's unsure he can say. ]

I don't, I don't care if you hang out with other people. And we both know sex happens, and I don't - I don't even care if it's outside of the gem stuff with other people. I guess I sort of - like you were saying the other night, I want you to try things with me first if you want something, but that's not...that's not the part that I care about most...

[ He lapses into silence for a moment, then, muttering, continues: ]

I, I um, none of this matters if you...feel like you want to do this with someone else. Or if you're okay with me doing it with someone else. We're still friends no matter what, and if you want nothing to change nothing has to.

[Shit! Too late! Fucking hell that was a GENERAL "YOU"! Not specifically targeting Izuku or even asking him to try his hand at explaining it! But in true Deku fashion, he starts rambling and Katsuki bristles in frustrated irritation as the words come out. So. Not. What. He. Fucking. Meant.

Listening to what he says, however, ironically clarifies some things in Katsuki's mind. It doesn't provide an immediate answer, but then again, he already knows the difference between going on a date with someone and simply hanging out with someone. Might not ever have experienced it, but he knows. Thanks to his old hag and her dragging him to one of those stupid movies.]

Hanging out and having sex with others is gonna fucking happen. I'm not gonna be attached to your damn hip and I don't want you on mine either. We separated the floors in our house for that reason.

[To give that clear indication. Together, but not joined. Even though Izuku and he do sleep in the same bed on occasion. ... ... Maybe getting a little more frequent occasion.

The "first time" stuff is something he still agrees with, though since he got into an argument last he spoke about that, he simply nods when Izuku brings it up. Does want to be his first sounding board, but not promising he's going to react favorably to everything Izuku brings to him.]

I spent way too much time worrying about you running out and - and something happening, when you were refusing to synch beyond the bare minimum way back when you got here. I would always rather you synch and be safe and have multiple sources of manna than insist you only synch with me.

[That's mostly what he's getting from all of this prattle. Izuku has a hard time saying things too, though more out of awkwardness than out of stubborn pride like Katsuki. He tunes out the talk about sex since he's heard it before and knows it and Izuku's rambling again.

Boyfriends. It's obviously doable here. Just because they can't feasibly stay monogamous due to events and influences doesn't mean he has to agree to go on dates with other people. He knows the difference. Sex in Noctium is more an action than a committed action compared to most worlds. The whole manna thing is at the root of it, though he's loathe to admit he and Izuku make enough manna it'll be hard to run out of it at any given time. Unless they really blow through their stores. However that fucking works.]

Katsuki's of the mind he's far too intelligent and proud to let himself get turned to fucking stone by some stupid "god" and their dumbass requirements. Sure, earlier this year he would've been petrified than hold Izuku's hand, but he's matured beyond that point now.

Izuku should---should---know that, so obviously the only other thing he could be "worried" about happening to Katsuki regarding manna is someone trying to take it from him without his permission.

[ Izuku's hand leaves his neck, drags across his face as he visibly stops himself explaining. It often does zero good to do so - Katsuki gets annoyed or tunes him out, or misinterprets him a second time, and he doesn't want to get stuck arguing about what he meant. Or explaining why he still worries. Katsuki probably doesn't want him worrying at all and likely never worries about Izuku here beyond potential villain fights and therefore can't comprehend it. ]

Um, we're going to miss our start time at this rate, we should probably get a move on.

[ He's not specifically looking at Katsuki, flushed and flustered still and trying not to freak the hell out about the rest of what his friend was saying. ]

[Is it a good thing Katsuki's not growling for an explanation and simply letting Izuku have the benefit of backing out of the faux passe? He's noticed both of them tend to fuck shit up when they try to explain a mistake or confuse shit, so best to simply have at it and then leave the subject to drop.

As for the worried part, he does "worry" about him getting in trouble and getting himself killed, hence telling him to move in with him to keep an eye on the idiot (and also because it's comforting to him, but hell if he's gonna say that aloud). But no, he doesn't fret over Izuku like some mother hen, wondering if he's going to get home at night or if he's good to go on manna. Izuku's a big boy and a hero and he can handle himself. For the most part.]

Just wanted to clear that shit up with you.

[ Ironically Katsuki might be too generous there - Izuku isn't really good at taking care of himself, and the only reason he hasn't run out of manna since the first time he did is that Katsuki showed up and he fussed at Katsuki until they were regular partners. If they got in a big enough fight they didn't synch for a long chunk of time, he might genuinely fuck up his manna levels again out of distracted negligence. His Quirk is multiple Quirks and a genuinely big drain on his manna, and he isn't always careful about it if he thinks he needs to save someone.

Hell, he probably skips meals if Katsuki happens to not come home ever, not exactly on purpose but just sort of letting things he's supposed to do to take care of himself fall to the wayside in favor of just about anything else.

As to how much it helped...Izuku understands Katsuki wants this to be a date but might not have hit the correct reason as to why. It doesn't matter much either way. ]

[Maybe he is. But Katsuki figures Izuku has enough friends here and presence of mind not to die if something happened. He'd find a way to live and get manna, especially since it's easy enough to generate it with someone, particularly for those who make friends so easily. Wouldn't be anywhere near the same level and quality Izuku makes with him (cause he's so not proud of that, oh no) but he could live. Is Katsuki's belief.

[ 50% of Izuku's stress comes from not being at home - the other 50% is from Katsuki. It's how it is, and he definitely doesn't like Katsuki like that or anything, it's just, you know, a huge crush. So it could be way worse, and might be if Katsuki keeps encouraging him like this.
