[Katsuki realizes there's no way to actually squirm out of this without being the kind of asshole he wasstillis and blaming it on Izuku's dreams. (You can't convince him you don't dream of that!)

[ Of course not. And really, not many people use "Izuku" - his mother, of course, but convention dictates it's usually his family name, or his hero name. Of course a childhood friend who grew up with that permission keep it, and even without that they're something more intimate these days that allows it...

But Katsuki hasn't used that privilege since they were small children together, before he'd found another way to read Izuku's name.

He shifts, not quite sitting up but leaning over Katsuki. ]

[Katsuki ends up leaning back when Izuku leans over him. The sudden feeling of being trapped and cornered raises the hair along his hairline. But whereas saying his name before would've been a laughable attempt---because why the hell would you use the name of a "Deku"?---now, things are different.

As much as he'd hate to say it's due to Noctium, it is due to Noctium. Their experiences here, getting closer to him, the addition of what's been built over the year at U.A., and his growing respect and trust in the other boy's power, is it really the same reason behind using that name?

Or is it simply what he's used to?

Katsuki's expression narrows into something a bit quieter, solemn. No, he hasn't forgotten his name. Why the hell would he? It's a name, even if unspoken for years, he's grown up with as one half of his life.]

[ Hm, yeah. He's gonna cry. At least it's not full on sobbing - and he's not intentionally trying to corner Katsuki. Just...he wanted to be able to see his expression. This time he sees that name formed and released and...

It feels important to him, because even if he made Deku his own, Katsuki's always used to at derisive nickname - though Izuku doesn't mind it these days (gave up forever ago saying it was mean) and doesn't think Katsuki means it in a bad way anymore so much as the same habitual reflex that has Izuku calling Katsuki "Kacchan" like he has since they were toddlers. ]

Ka...Katsuki. [ Still fucks up trying to say it sometimes because muscle memory wants him to say it the usual way...

[Well if you're going to cry every time he says your real name, that's not much an incentive for him to keep saying it! At the very least it's not an ugly cry. And Katsuki was worried about him drooling on his shirt in his sleep. Now he's got tears on his shirt... but he doesn't try to stop him or push him off.

Izuku has made that name his own and truth be told, for the past few months (at home), Katsuki's used "Deku" more as the accepted name than ever thinking about it being the insulting method of refusing to acknowledge Izuku's real name. It'd been reclaimed and he went with it because it was too hard to change. He doesn't even mean it the way it'd been used. So... the only excuse now is complete habit.

Maybe the tiniest bit of instinctive paybacks for 'Kacchan'. Or Izuku's already doing that. Chicken or the egg argument with that one.

[ He's usually going to use the other one, but he likes being allowed to say Katsuki's name if he wants to (which actually he probably can, no one but Katsuki is stopping him).

He doesn't respond to the dripping beyond rubbing at one of his eyes. ]

[Usually his mom's the one yelling it; the rest of his classmates and teachers use his family name, so... it's shit connotation that Izuku's stepping in.

If Izuku's really adamant on using it occasionally, he won't stop him, but it'll always sound weird.
