I mean, I guess so? But I kind of want to see what I'm capable of solving myself, if that makes sense? You can research, but I think I'll fly blind and see how I do. It's kind of like a test when you think about it.

I kind of want to focus on the story of this one though since it's limited...and I don't want to hold you back while I do or have anything solved without an effort, I guess? I mean, I also just think competing could be fun, too! And with three courses it could be best two out of three!

Although if someone loses the first two then we'd do the third together I think?

Escape rooms aren't meant to be done alone, Deku. Either we're doing it together, or we should look for something else. We can compete by seeing who solves more clues or something.

If you're really that fucking hung up on the preparation, then fine. We'll do it raw.

[What he's not saying aloud is if his choice is prepare and do it without Izuku or don't prepare and do it together, he'd rather do it with Izuku.]

[ Honestly he'd been trying to figure out a compromise, but there isn't really a way to do that in this situation...beyond both of them doing their own thing in the same room, which Katsuki already suggested. Or separately, which Izuku had.

The "hung up on" comment has him re-evaluating, embarrassed. The how doesn't matter as much as actually going together and Katsuki liking it. He's the one who's less likely to want to do it again if he dislikes it.

If Izuku's preference isn't fulfilled he'll still be able to have fun just being there, and he's not sure how reluctant that agreement was. Better play it safe. ]

[Katsuki would've fast balled a pillow at him if he'd been there in person. He glares at the phone as the words show up. There he goes again, throwing himself under the proverbial bus just because Katsuki reluctantly deferred to him.

Shit part is, the two of them can both not enjoy something if it feels forced or they've had to give up something to make it work. Izuku's simply far less vocal about it and far more willing to enjoy it anyways, even if he doesn't get his way.

Which is fine. But Katsuki has to deal with the other boy backtracking over himself to tell him "no, I'LL acquiesce; not you!" again. Which annoys him because he'd already said they could do it Izuku's way first.]

You really think I'm gonna sulk and not have fun if we don't do it my way?

[Yes, he know Izuku's competitive and wants to win just a much, but he'd still rather enjoy an experience, win or not, and won't let a loss ruin his fun. So he doesn't need to pretend it would simply to get on Katsuki's good side.]

No, not really. But I don't want to get hung up on details. You were right, that is what I was doing, and I don't want to when they don't matter as much as other things. The experience I actually want isn't really enjoying the escape room, it's having fun with you, so I don't want you to have to hold yourself back in any way.

I definitely won't make you shoulder the score alone, so don't worry! Maybe we should divide up the things we're researching beforehand so we have better coverage? There are general knowledge themes we can assume we'll need to know just from the general description, or rather things that would be helpful to know.

Look, Deku. There are two ways to enjoy this.

1) Without preparing. Go in. Get as much fucking done as we can. And kick the shit out of the scores even without prep!

2) With preparing. We'll know what to expect to a degree and can make better judgements. Still crash through it and rank a new high score.

We can do both of them, but ONE of them can't be done after the other one, dammit. I already told you I was gonna improve on this shit, so fucking let me.

[You know, the whole "listening to and acknowledging Izuku's wants instead of instantly trampling them with his own" relationship issue.]

Let's enjoy it your way first, because we can't get that experience back if we lose it. If it makes you feel better, consider the first dry run as preparing for the next one anyways.

[Besides, if they're going tomorrow, that means they'd have to do a crash course in studying tonight and that's bullshit because they still have training to do in the gym. Which also kind of undermines Katsuki's want to prepare for the thing anyways.]

[ ...okay, yes, they definitely have talked about Katsuki wanting to be better about things, but Izuku was honestly applying that mostly to the physical side of their relationship and somehow didn't expect it here.

Katsuki's right that Izuku's way can only be done the first time.

Part of him still wants to argue about it, but he promised to try harder, too. In an entirely different way he finds just as difficult as Katsuki finds being considerate - not obligingly giving way to someone else's preferences (when no one is being hurt by them) doesn't come easily or naturally to Izuku. He's willing to state his preferences but he doesn't always fight to keep them.

And he's really bad at letting other people make sacrifices for him. ]

Okay. Then we'll go in and see how we do without anything. I think figuring out the puzzles will be fun!
