[... yep. Within seconds, he can tell Bakugo is back to his usual grumpy self!]
Back to normal already, huh.
[It's fine, he expected as much.]
1. So that one's already taken. I thought it sounded familiar. That's too bad, since green is my image color and lanterns are something that light up the dark, which means it's a good fit for me! But it's also not *that* catchy, and it doesn't alliterate, so I guess that's not a huge loss.
2. Perhaps so, but I like calling myself "Pretty" since it's a reference to one of my circles. We called ourselves Pretty 5! 💕
3. What's wrong with "GG"?
4. What's gross about love? <-- Good luck answering this question without sounding like a kid!
5. You're Dynamite, not Dynamo!
6. I know what rangers do!
7. What on earth do you mean by that? My very name means "weather!" Not to mention my association with sunshine. That's a form of weather, you know. A form of good weather!
8. Perhaps I'm paying homage!
Anyway, that *is* what I was trying to do, you know. I was trying to choose a hero name that summarizes me! But since you've already given your opinions, does that mean you think "Sunshine Striker" and "Avenging Aristocrat" summarize me best?
[Don't talk about that wretched time and he won't snarl about it.]
Lanterns are pathetic compared to how gaudy you are.
It's sounds weak.
Stands for something you don't like.
What, are you gonna love a criminal to death? Sick. nailed it
HA! You wish you were explosive enough to be a dynamo!
Oh yeah? Let's hear it.
They'll expect you to have weather powers and use it to fight, dammit! Sunshine is not a weather. It's the absence of weather.
And you think you can hold their legacy on your shoulders?
[His best friend at U.A.'s hero name is homage to the hero he looks up to the most. He was cautioned by their teacher, asking if he was ready to accept that association, which he was, of course. Still...]
They're better than the others. But why do you wanna be called either?
In some ways it's a relief to know there's nothing messing with Bakugo's head still. But their time together wasn't "wretched" in Hiyori's opinion. It was fun and enjoyable! Still, he'll refrain from saying so for now.]
You think I shine a lot brighter than a lantern, huh? Thank you for saying so! I accept the compliment! 💖
I still can't think of any bad things "GG" would stand for. But if you're saying it stands for something dirty, then scratch that, I guess!
I was thinking more along the lines of "a hero who protects people's loved ones." But stopping criminals can also be a form of love, now that I think of it. A form called tough love!
"I don't want you to continue down this path, so I'm stopping you here!" <--- Don't you think that's also "love"?
It's simple. Rangers team up, wear masks, transform, and fight evil together! Using their powers, as well as the power of teamwork and friendship! I didn't watch much of that stuff growing up, but one of the other units at ES is themed around those sorts of shows.
Sunshine is sunshine!
[Geez, Bakugo, don't invalidate his entire catchphrase. But as for all that legacy talk...]
Honestly, not really. I know I'd protect my loved ones no matter what, even sacrificing myself if I have to. But I don't know that I can protect the whole world very easily, especially without a Quirk. This was more of a just-for-fun activity, since we talked about names during our teatime. And I was curious to hear your opinion about what would suit me best!
[What the hell is this wall of text?! Even texting, Hiyori's wordy! (And no, it wasn't wretched in truth, but Bakugo's a melodramatic jerk, so it's being described that way in his head, dammit!) This guy's such a pain.]
You'd turn an insult into a compliment.
[So it was easier to spit one out instead.]
"GG" usually stands for "good game" after sports or battle. Where people sweat.
[Still taunting him about that.]
Hn. If that was your goal, you're not gonna convey that with your name alone; you'll have to link them with your actions and words. It might work after a few outings.
No. [It's a synonym for compassion, empathy, caring, and other such things, which Hiyori and others can easily call "love" so he's not gonna argue about it. Bakugo has a more narrow, traditional view of the word. Not something you throw around so easily in his opinion.]
Ah, the super sentai kind of ranger. You know they have to fight, not dance around on the stage and sing.
[Okay, that's kind of cute. And stupid. But also cute. Bakugo could see people picking up on Hiyori's theming easily, even if they would question his name if he didn't have any weather or sunshine related powers... People do that.]
There was a small-time villain who called himself Gentle Criminal. Calling yourself an aristocrat can't be any worse.
[Considering Hiyori's character, wealth, costume, and he'll definitely age into the name, Bakugo accepted it as passable in his opinion.]
It'll work even better as you grow older.
[But to compromise... Toolbox it here real quick.]
Sunavenger Aristocrat.
[The younger crowd would stick with the "cooler" Sunavenger name, but the older classy folks would likely call him the Aristocrat.]
Which goes to show you why people shouldn't waste their breath insulting me!
That's all, huh? I thought the acronym stood for something much worse!
That's what I'd intend to do, of course. I'd be a dazzling hero, so that everyone can say my dazzling name suits me! And I don't see why a ranger can't also sing.
[So it's Avenging Aristocrat. Perhaps not as sunshiney as he'd like, but it'll do! Especially since this is all hypothetical anyway—
... ah. Nope. Bakugo has something else to add onto it.]
The sunvenger?
[It's a made-up word, and it sounds kind of childish, but...]
[As if that's Hiyori's fault. Even though it kind of is.]
There's something worse to you than sweat and activity?
[Nar har har.]
When's the last time you saw a super sentai team sing a song to fight some monster?
[Because he can't think of any either! Keeping the Aristocrat in Hiyori's potential name also gives him more reason to show up decked out fancy and formal. Aristocratic and/or gaudy clothes for costume.]
Right, right, the Sun Avenger! Or as you called it, the Sunavenger! "Feel my sunbeam of justice!" ☀️👊💥
That's the kind of hero I'd like to be. One who defeats the enemy not with violence, but with my dazzling image!
Or my singing. But I guess if I sing at the same time as I unleash my sun powers, then it's sort of the same thing. That reminds me, though: did you know anyone back home with sunshine-related Quirks? What about musical Quirks?
I'm talking about a real fight where you split your lip and the monster doesn't blink out if you miss your footing.
[The same thing as Hiyori saying he's a princess at Halloween. It's pretense in Hiyori's world. In Bakugo's world, rangers are real. (Well, for what heroes choose to take their image as their hero image/theme.) But the idol knows this. Should know this.]
Hmph, already making Ultimate Moves.
[Sunbeam of Justice would be fitting, even if it's stupidly corny.]
[He wasn't a hero, a small-time villain at that, but Midoriya thought he could be a hero later in life, considering the power of his ridiculous Quirk.]
A girl in my class' Quirk made her invisible, but she could refract and bend light as an Ultimate Move.
[There may have been a musical Quirk in one of the light novels or compendiums, but I cannot recall...]
We idols can't afford to go around with split lips, so I'll pass on that! But that's what the masks are for, right? To protect our lovely lips!
[Ignoring that Bakugo's hero mask doesn't cover his mouth...]
Is that the term for it?
I'm not sure who that is, but if that's their name, then I'll just picture them as a giant smiling emoji!
A girl who can make herself invisible *and* bend light, huh. That must be what you call an all-rounder. But basically, heroes have normal moves and Ultimate Moves?
Both of those sound rather boring. Unless "support" includes singing for the troops to raise morale. Then I can just do that! 🎵🎶
I wouldn't mind being a masked hero. That's probably safest. Though I do think it'd be a shame to conceal my lovely face, since that could also be considered a kind of "weapon."
[... wait a sec.]
Perhaps removing my mask could be my other "Ultimate Move!"
[Yep. That's totally how it works. But uh, moving onto that invisible girl...]
You mean she's *always* invisible?
That sounds tragic! I know it'd be useful in combat scenarios, but otherwise it sounds too lonely. I can't imagine the pain of never being looked at.
[Truly a fate worse than death for an attention whore like Hiyori.]
You'd be better off advertising and getting sponsors.
[You should see his face over here. Hiyori seriously believes he can unmask himself and stop a villain in their tracks? Well, Mr. Smiley had a Quirk like that, so...]
If your Quirk had that affect, you could. Like a Gorgon.
[Totally not the version Hiyori's going for, but it's hilarious to Bakugo!]
Yeah. Her family has the same Quirk. [They're an invisible family.] She doesn't have a problem with it.
[And there are ways for Hagakure to be rendered visible, but they're pretty damn intense...]
That reminds me of my birthday suit. I received one as a gift here, and it has the effect of stopping people in their tracks. One look, and sometimes they forget what they were doing and just stare! It really brings out my charms~
[Orrrrr it was magically enchanted by Jin Mingming. Which he knows it was.]
A whole family of invisible people is awfully hard to picture. It still sounds sad to me, but if she's content with her life, then that's good.
All you heroes sure are unique. Just like idols, and just like snowflakes!
Not the naked kind, right? [What? That's one definition of "birthday suit" you know!] Tch, if you ever do get a superpower, it's probably gonna have something to do with that.
[The more he thinks about Hiyori, the more an ability to stun people on sight seems perfectly fitting for him. Too bad he wouldn't have the combat skills to take advantage of it.]
What else happened on your birthday?
[Someone recently warned him about birthdays here, so... might as well ask.]
Imagine a bunch of filled-out clothes hovering in the air and you're close.
Nope, not that kind! But by "something like that," you mean stunning everyone with my good looks, huh? 😘
Nothing happened apart from that! Though I did get a couple of other nice gifts. I was worried I'd be cursed, since I heard that sort of thing can happen on birthdays here, but I had no such bad luck. I *was* dealing with something unpleasant, but that had nothing to do with birthdays.
[Bakugo is right to be wary. He got off easy but not everyone does.]
That just sounds funny!
But if her clothes can't turn invisible too, aren't her powers somewhat useless? It's hard to sneak up on the enemy when they can see a hero costume floating through the air, no?
[What, did he think he'd escape without getting some razz for it?]
Hmph, it's bad enough people have to spend their damn birthdays here; this place shouldn't add to that with it's own shitty gifts and celebrations.
[Someone suggested sucking it up and making use of the birthday benefits, but given Bakugo's temper and patience, he's not sure he'd ever be able to last the day with that bullshit attention.]
She doesn't wear clothes on missions.
[True, she wears boots and gloves normally, but once she's "in action" on a mission, Hagakure has to strip down and brave the elements. That said, she's proven to be more resistant to them than an normal human going out in the buff. So that's... something.]
I completely agree with you on the second one, though. I'm guessing you haven't had a birthday here yet, have you?
[He can't blame Bakugo for worrying about it. He totally expected the worst on his own birthday. Especially because he's always badmouthing the House, and he doesn't get naked often enough (or with the right amount for people) for their liking.
Doesn't matter if I do or not. I'd stay in my room the whole fucking day. I don't need this place pulling any shit on me.
[And no, he hasn't had one here yet, but certainly isn't broadcasting his upcoming on either. So far only one person knows the day, and the only other person knows it's at least coming up at some point. Bakugo took the warnings he got and has decided to sit the whole damn day out. If possible.]
You wanna suggest another one?
[She's invisible. Not her clothes. How else is she going to sneak around without people noticing her?]
If you said that to her, she'd shut you up.
[With her happy, chipper attitude Hiyori would fall in love with in 0.2 seconds by Bakugo's estimation.]
I don't blame you for that, since that's what I planned to do.
But things might not turn out so bad. I know I didn't get cursed on my birthday, so it seems to vary. And Weiss-chan threw a big party for hers, so if she'd been cursed, I would have noticed! And then Esikko-kun had a birthday recently, and if he was cursed, he didn't mention that.
As for Jun-kun, I guess he did get cursed, but it wasn't a huge deal. It was somewhat cute, really! But if you want my opinion, I'd stay in your room throughout the morning. Then if everything seems alright by afternoon, it might be safe to venture out!
And if it's not alright, we'll just have to celebrate later! With cake and party hats! 🥳🎉🎂🎈
I don't have any suggestions, but that's mostly because I don't know how Quirk stuff works! Is there any way someone could harness her power to make invisible clothes? What if a clothing brand came up with a line of costumes like that? Then they'd be rich!
It's not gonna fucking matter. I'll sleep the whole damn day if I have to.
[But the best laid plans...]
Hmph. Someone said the resort treats you like a royal card on the day. You get a bunch of benefits and other bullcrap.
["Take advantage of it when you can" had been the advice, and Bakugo's... trying to weigh the severity of the annoyance versus what he could potentially stockpile for the future.]
Huh? What "we" are you talking about?
[No one said shit about him having a party or even a birthday, dammit! HE ADMITS NOTHING!!]
I dunno. My upperclassman's Quirk lets him become intangible. They used his hair to develop material that becomes intangible with him for his costume.
[But just his costume. Apparently it took a fair bit of resources, so Mirio doesn't have a host of "Quirk-proof" clothing.]
It seems to vary from person to person. I know some people who've gotten cursed, while others got showered with nice gifts! All I know is that it's not dependent on behavior, since I never got cursed.
[And he never follows any of the rules around here...]
By "we" I mean us, of course! We don't have to throw a birthday bash, but I do think we should celebrate. Everyone deserves to eat cake on their birthday. And I still have leftover party poppers! 🎉
So it is possible! They just need some of her hair!
I hope she gets a costume one day. Putting aside "modesty," fighting without any coverage just sounds dangerous. There's that, and designing a costume sounds like one of the fun parts about being a hero. I'm an idol, so I know how wearing a costume can give you strength!
Speaking of which, now that I have my hero name, I guess the next step is designing my hero costume!
[Because birthdays are a stupid "problem" he doesn't want to deal with. He'd rather skip the damn day and carry on like nothing happened. Good to know Hiyori never got cursed at least?]
Save it for someone who wants it. [The poppers.] You've got better things to spend your time on.
They've had access to her hair for years now. If it were possible, they would've done it when she put in orders for her costume.
[In other words, were it possible, Hagakure opted to forgo invisible clothes. But since she didn't, pretty damn sure the costume department wasn't able to replicate Mirio's costume technology with Hagakure's.]
Maybe they'll figure it out in the future. A lot of people in my class share costume designers. They take your ideas and intents into account while working with you.
Like your name, your costume's not something you change all the time, Parrot. So design it with recognition and stability in mind.
Don't tell me you never celebrated your birthday back at home! And setting off party poppers doesn't take *too* much time. If I say it's what I want to do, then it's fine, no?
That all sounds like a pity. But hopefully they will figure it out! Technology continues to advance, after all, to the point where us humans can hardly keep up. First smartphones, then smartwatches, and now we have things like VR worlds where idols can give virtual performances! Really makes your head spin, doesn't it?
Right, right, makes sense! I don't think you need to lecture me too much on costumes. That's something I'm plenty familiar with. Our unit costumes are made with "recognition" and "stability" in mind, too! As well as "image," "appeal," and all sorts of other things.
Though we do have more than just one costume. I'm guessing it's different for you heroes, huh.
Yeah, when I was a kid. And I didn't say you couldn't! Do whatever you want.
[You know, in general. Not trying to throw together some damn party or something. For him.]
Guess it's different when you're not living in a world where most people can wreck even advanced technology.
[Bakugo's never had to fear some computer taking over because he's fully capable of destroying whatever computer criminal shows up! Still, Hiyori's not wrong about technology improving dangerously fast.]
Ha? It sounded like you guys changed your damn costumes with each theme, tour, or performance you went on.
Some heroes retire costumes after a while. All Might had over four ages of costumes.

So that's... something.]

Date: 3/10/25 03:34 (UTC)I completely agree with you on the second one, though. I'm guessing you haven't had a birthday here yet, have you?
[He can't blame Bakugo for worrying about it. He totally expected the worst on his own birthday. Especially because he's always badmouthing the House, and he doesn't get naked often enough (or with the right amount for people) for their liking.
But speaking of nudity...]
THAT'S the solution??
[He's scandalized!]

Date: 3/10/25 03:35 (UTC)Now I feel even more sorry for her.

Date: 3/10/25 23:22 (UTC)Doesn't matter if I do or not.

Date: 3/11/25 14:54 (UTC)But things might not turn out so bad.

Date: 3/11/25 15:26 (UTC)[But the best laid plans...]

Date: 3/12/25 03:24 (UTC)[And he never follows any of the rules around here...]

Date: 3/12/25 21:42 (UTC)[Because birthdays are a stupid "problem" he doesn't want to deal with.

Date: 3/14/25 02:35 (UTC)That all sounds like a pity.

Date: 3/14/25 17:44 (UTC)[You know, in general.
