Not the naked kind, right? [What? That's one definition of "birthday suit" you know!] Tch, if you ever do get a superpower, it's probably gonna have something to do with that.
[The more he thinks about Hiyori, the more an ability to stun people on sight seems perfectly fitting for him. Too bad he wouldn't have the combat skills to take advantage of it.]
What else happened on your birthday?
[Someone recently warned him about birthdays here, so... might as well ask.]
Imagine a bunch of filled-out clothes hovering in the air and you're close.
Nope, not that kind! But by "something like that," you mean stunning everyone with my good looks, huh? ๐
Nothing happened apart from that! Though I did get a couple of other nice gifts. I was worried I'd be cursed, since I heard that sort of thing can happen on birthdays here, but I had no such bad luck. I *was* dealing with something unpleasant, but that had nothing to do with birthdays.
[Bakugo is right to be wary. He got off easy but not everyone does.]
That just sounds funny!
But if her clothes can't turn invisible too, aren't her powers somewhat useless? It's hard to sneak up on the enemy when they can see a hero costume floating through the air, no?
[What, did he think he'd escape without getting some razz for it?]
Hmph, it's bad enough people have to spend their damn birthdays here; this place shouldn't add to that with it's own shitty gifts and celebrations.
[Someone suggested sucking it up and making use of the birthday benefits, but given Bakugo's temper and patience, he's not sure he'd ever be able to last the day with that bullshit attention.]
She doesn't wear clothes on missions.
[True, she wears boots and gloves normally, but once she's "in action" on a mission, Hagakure has to strip down and brave the elements. That said, she's proven to be more resistant to them than an normal human going out in the buff. So that's... something.]
I completely agree with you on the second one, though. I'm guessing you haven't had a birthday here yet, have you?
[He can't blame Bakugo for worrying about it. He totally expected the worst on his own birthday. Especially because he's always badmouthing the House, and he doesn't get naked often enough (or with the right amount for people) for their liking.
Doesn't matter if I do or not. I'd stay in my room the whole fucking day. I don't need this place pulling any shit on me.
[And no, he hasn't had one here yet, but certainly isn't broadcasting his upcoming on either. So far only one person knows the day, and the only other person knows it's at least coming up at some point. Bakugo took the warnings he got and has decided to sit the whole damn day out. If possible.]
You wanna suggest another one?
[She's invisible. Not her clothes. How else is she going to sneak around without people noticing her?]
If you said that to her, she'd shut you up.
[With her happy, chipper attitude Hiyori would fall in love with in 0.2 seconds by Bakugo's estimation.]
I don't blame you for that, since that's what I planned to do.
But things might not turn out so bad. I know I didn't get cursed on my birthday, so it seems to vary. And Weiss-chan threw a big party for hers, so if she'd been cursed, I would have noticed! And then Esikko-kun had a birthday recently, and if he was cursed, he didn't mention that.
As for Jun-kun, I guess he did get cursed, but it wasn't a huge deal. It was somewhat cute, really! But if you want my opinion, I'd stay in your room throughout the morning. Then if everything seems alright by afternoon, it might be safe to venture out!
And if it's not alright, we'll just have to celebrate later! With cake and party hats! ๐ฅณ๐๐๐
I don't have any suggestions, but that's mostly because I don't know how Quirk stuff works! Is there any way someone could harness her power to make invisible clothes? What if a clothing brand came up with a line of costumes like that? Then they'd be rich!
It's not gonna fucking matter. I'll sleep the whole damn day if I have to.
[But the best laid plans...]
Hmph. Someone said the resort treats you like a royal card on the day. You get a bunch of benefits and other bullcrap.
["Take advantage of it when you can" had been the advice, and Bakugo's... trying to weigh the severity of the annoyance versus what he could potentially stockpile for the future.]
Huh? What "we" are you talking about?
[No one said shit about him having a party or even a birthday, dammit! HE ADMITS NOTHING!!]
I dunno. My upperclassman's Quirk lets him become intangible. They used his hair to develop material that becomes intangible with him for his costume.
[But just his costume. Apparently it took a fair bit of resources, so Mirio doesn't have a host of "Quirk-proof" clothing.]
It seems to vary from person to person. I know some people who've gotten cursed, while others got showered with nice gifts! All I know is that it's not dependent on behavior, since I never got cursed.
[And he never follows any of the rules around here...]
By "we" I mean us, of course! We don't have to throw a birthday bash, but I do think we should celebrate. Everyone deserves to eat cake on their birthday. And I still have leftover party poppers! ๐
So it is possible! They just need some of her hair!
I hope she gets a costume one day. Putting aside "modesty," fighting without any coverage just sounds dangerous. There's that, and designing a costume sounds like one of the fun parts about being a hero. I'm an idol, so I know how wearing a costume can give you strength!
Speaking of which, now that I have my hero name, I guess the next step is designing my hero costume!
[Because birthdays are a stupid "problem" he doesn't want to deal with. He'd rather skip the damn day and carry on like nothing happened. Good to know Hiyori never got cursed at least?]
Save it for someone who wants it. [The poppers.] You've got better things to spend your time on.
They've had access to her hair for years now. If it were possible, they would've done it when she put in orders for her costume.
[In other words, were it possible, Hagakure opted to forgo invisible clothes. But since she didn't, pretty damn sure the costume department wasn't able to replicate Mirio's costume technology with Hagakure's.]
Maybe they'll figure it out in the future. A lot of people in my class share costume designers. They take your ideas and intents into account while working with you.
Like your name, your costume's not something you change all the time, Parrot. So design it with recognition and stability in mind.
Don't tell me you never celebrated your birthday back at home! And setting off party poppers doesn't take *too* much time. If I say it's what I want to do, then it's fine, no?
That all sounds like a pity. But hopefully they will figure it out! Technology continues to advance, after all, to the point where us humans can hardly keep up. First smartphones, then smartwatches, and now we have things like VR worlds where idols can give virtual performances! Really makes your head spin, doesn't it?
Right, right, makes sense! I don't think you need to lecture me too much on costumes. That's something I'm plenty familiar with. Our unit costumes are made with "recognition" and "stability" in mind, too! As well as "image," "appeal," and all sorts of other things.
Though we do have more than just one costume. I'm guessing it's different for you heroes, huh.
Yeah, when I was a kid. And I didn't say you couldn't! Do whatever you want.
[You know, in general. Not trying to throw together some damn party or something. For him.]
Guess it's different when you're not living in a world where most people can wreck even advanced technology.
[Bakugo's never had to fear some computer taking over because he's fully capable of destroying whatever computer criminal shows up! Still, Hiyori's not wrong about technology improving dangerously fast.]
Ha? It sounded like you guys changed your damn costumes with each theme, tour, or performance you went on.
Some heroes retire costumes after a while. All Might had over four ages of costumes.
Great, then I will! Party poppers it is, then! ๐ฅณ
[Sorry Bakugo. You said he could do what he wants!]
Speaking of not being a kid, your next birthday is your 18th, no? That may still fall below the drinking age, but it *is* a major milestone. Which is all the more reason to celebrate if you ask me!
Perhaps you heroes can make any piece of technology explode, but you couldn't destroy a whole VR world, could you?
True, we do have specific outfits for different performances! But we also have our "main outfits," which reflect our motifs and show off our image colors! And it sounds like you heroes aren't *too* different, if you retire outfits and get new ones.
My image color is green, by the way, as you already know. But if I'm going to be the "Sunavenger," then it'd make more sense to wear sunshine yellow, wouldn't it?
[Growling to himself, he resigns for the attention. Then again, Hiyori doesn't know WHEN his birthday even is! Could be tomorrow, could be two weeks, could be three months! HAH!
BEAT THAT, PARROT!]
Yeah. The only fucking good thing about it. I don't drink, so that's not a problem. Che. Maybe after the actual day, so I can fake this shitty bird out.
[Spiteful.]
What?! You pull the fucking plug and the VR system shuts down. It might be a world, but it's still constrained within a physical computer, running on programs and code. You turn it off.
[Maybe he meant it literally?]
What's your "main outfit" then?
By retiring, I mean changing the entire thing, not just upgrading a few pieces.
No, you don't need to wear a color to match your name if you don't want. Your look and action will be associated with your name no matter what you wear.
Very well! We'll celebrate the day after your birthday! ๐๐ Just be sure to let me know which date that is.
I don't know much about how VR works! I just know our "VR world for idols" is still around, even though someone from my agency tried to destroy it with a chainsaw!
I know what it means to retire a costume.
[But since Bakugo asked about his main costume, he figues he might as well just send him a visual air. There's a pause in the convo while he transfers a photo from his smartphone to his smartwatch. Since this is taking place after their event thread, Bakugo already knows he has access to his camera roll, and the photo Hiyori attaches is one that Jun took backstage.]
You can't see the bottom half, but here's the top half. As you can see, our theme color is black, but the costumes also show our unique image colors!
[Dammit, this guy's so persistent! Bakugo scowls at his ceiling before rolling his eyes and giving up.]
Fine! I'll let you know after the date!
[Sheesh. Still keeping the true date under wraps for stubborn sake.]
What the hell is a VR world for idols? Some training ground or amusement park?
[And how the hell does Hiyori not realize such a thing has to be operational in the first place?
Anyways, he takes a minute or so to scan over Hiyori's costume. He's not someone who takes a lot of pictures with his phone, so there's little to no desire on Bakugo's part to have his back. Besides, he can call people on the stupid watch, so why have another piece of tech to keep track of? ... Unless the phone's somehow not connected to the peacock's network, and serves as a blindspot.]
You could be a hero with that costume. That shitty copycat blowhard from 1-B dresses in a full tuxedo with coat tails as his hero costume.
[It's not quite as intricate as Hiyori's, but the design wouldn't detract.]
Apparently it's a world where idols can give virtual performances to a sea of fans, all plugged into their VR sets. I haven't tried it myself yet, but there's a lot you can do with that sort of setup. For example, ES can revive old retired idols, using holograms and whatnot. I wouldn't mention that around Jun-kun, though, or he'll start talking incessantly about one retired idol in particular.
[Yes, AI and deepfakes are subjects that come up a fair amount in his canon. There's even an anti-cryptocurrency event!]
And a mask, right? Sounds classy!
[If you're going to wear a tuxedo, you've got to have a mask. (Yes, this is another Sailor Moon reference.)]
But I don't think my hero costume and my idol costume should be the same. I'm not a member of Ryuuseitai, so it seems to me those ought to be separate. Besides, don't you agree that I'd look striking in a cape? I'd have no trouble at all pulling off that look!
[Sheesh! If Hiyori shows up with party hats and balloons, he's gonna slam the door in his face!]
What the hell? People can't be fucked to go out and attend a real concert?
[That sounds lame as hell. Big difference between watching a movie and skipping out on an in person event. Granted, he can see the benefits to the idols, not having to travel as much and avoiding traffic and other shit associated with putting together an at-location event. But... that's half the fun of it!]
He doesn't wear a mask. He wants the world to see his stupid face.
[Monoma has some major ego issues. Unfortunately it's due to his Quirk and the treatment he received for it, though Bakugo has zero sympathy for the bastard. Now, Aoyama's massive ass winged visor is pretty stupid-looking in Bakugo's opinion. Compared to something more akin to Tuxedo Mask of Sailor Moon fame. That's the classy aspect.]
Fine, don't wear one! But I will, since it puts me in a festive spirit. Only I control what goes on my head!
Even though you tried to put pants there last time we went shopping, which was SO rude.
The VR concert was just ES trying something new, I think. I know what you mean though, since I'd rather see my fans in-person, too. Like that hero you mentioned, I prefer when fans can see my face! When I can look into their eyes, and reach their heart with my voice~๐ถ
You were rambling about how stupid rich you were! Would you rather I told you to shut up instead?
Do they ever record your concerts? [Some artists will only record one event during an entire tour, for better or for worse, to at least have some posterity, but not cheapen the rest of the tickets.]
So? Your first one was better than your second. Deal with it.
Nope! But I tell the hairdresser what to do, so it still counts! โญ
That's what bothered you? You know I don't have access to my riches here, right?
Recordings are prohibited at most of our lives. But that virtual concert was during the SS qualifiers, and that whole competition is broadcast nationwide anyway. You could also stream it online, which is great for our fans overseas.
Baku-kun thought I looked good with a ponytail, huh? ๐ Or did you think white was my color? I like changing up my look from time to time, so I'll remember your feedback! ๐โจ
Damn. Wonder how many times they've been tempted to scalp you.
Urusei! It's not something you did consciously.
[Besides, it was the third strike in a list of annoyances, so Hiyori got the pants to the face.]
Not surprising. But if they're streaming and broadcasting, people are going to record it and put it up on the internet to share. Pretty sure the SS knows that.
I never said that, dammit! [Hiyori looks good in anything not a dress. Sue him.] White's not bad for you.
That would be 0 times, since I don't go to violent hairdressers!
Throwing pants at people over something they did "subconsciously" doesn't make any sense to me. If you must throw pants, you'll need a better alibi!
True!
So you *do* think I look good in white!
[How ironic, given what his old unit outfit looked like.]
I'll keep that in mind, I guess. I don't like looking *too* angelic. But for certain occasions, white suits me just fine~๐ค It's the color of snow, so it's perfect for Christmas sweaters.
We idols have to be particular about our looks! But we do have stylists, and if someone's styling my hair before an appearance, I usually let them do whatever they think is best. I don't want to make things difficult for them.
It was a strange reason!
Good to know, I guess! But I'm someone who always looks lovely no matter what ๐
I don't think I've been called an imp before. Isn't that a demon? That sounds rather odd, coming from someone who criticized my Halloween costume!
But to answer your question, I've worn all sorts of outfits before. So there were times when I looked angelic, too~~ ๐ I can pull off just about any look.
[He just has bad associations due to his previous unit.]

๐โจ

Date: 3/24/25 17:48 (UTC)Throwing pants at people over something they did "subconsciously" doesn't make any sense to me.

Date: 3/25/25 01:28 (UTC)It's not an alibi! It's the fucking reason!
I'd've told you if you looked like shit.
[Look, it's hard to go wrong in white or black.]
When have you ever looked angelic? You're an imp in glittery clothes.

Date: 3/26/25 16:55 (UTC)It was a strange reason!
