Who the fuck carries roombas with them?! [Putting a spell in a coin is pretty smart, a small piece anyone can carry with them and whip it out whenever they're in trouble. But a cleaning machine?! Even if the idea of Roomba armor is laughable. Plastic and metal with bristles on the front for extra-dirty foes.]
Uh-huh. [Does it sound like he believes Taryon? Nope! But without any intent of going to see for himself, they'll have to agree to disagree. And just because it's filled with junk (potentially) doesn't mean it's not organized. Knickknack shops are cluttered messes, but their owners know where most things are.]
Don't get your damn hopes up with me. [Bakugo's not gonna be a one-man bookclub sounding board. He'll read it, and if he likes it, he'll return it without saying much. But one copy makes sharing difficult, so point.] I'll take care of it.
They're helpful. [And Taryon is quick to bond to robots. Thankfully, Doty isn't jealous of several simple drones who can never replace his role as Taryon's scribe and assistant.] I send them across the battlefield if I'm too far to help.
[A brilliant plan, when such an opportunity arises.]
Thank you. That books means a lot to me. [And from the looks of it, he's succeeded in reaching out to Bakuga when Ereshkigal couldn't. He's now the expert mediator (he is not).] So! Do you have any more questions to ask me? I'm up to answer anything you have about my work.
[And here Bakugo's pointedly looking at Taryon, around him, as if the guy's gonna suddenly pull out a sack full of circular cleaning machines from nowhere.]
Do yo enchant them to do their job better or have different tasks entirely? [The idea of a bunch of roombas trundling across the battlefield slow as fuck sweeping and cleaning is unintentionally hilarious. No way. They have to have been given some sort of upgrade to do what Taryon's implying.]
Uh-huh. [Granted Bakugo and Ereshkigal have more or less patched things up. It's not like he hates her; she insulted him (unintentionally) and he got pissed off in return. Fucking normal response! She's the one who blew it out of proportion. If she approached with another comment, none of this would've happened.]
They're already good at their jobs. I'm not going to meddle in those affairs. [Once he learns how to build his own electronics, the roombas will not be safe.] I enchanted them to follow my commands. "Go there," or "bring this thing", simple tasks to guide them to the right person. And they have their own personalities, did you know that?
[Which he programmed them to have.]
Arcane magic, if you want to be specific. The type where you study runes and research spells. Some wizards know how to cast them with a book, but I'm more of a hands-on fighter, as you have seen.
[Assuming that he's done something cool before he lost his memory.]
What the hell kind of Roombas are you talking about? They clean floors!
[How can Taryon enchant them to do different things without meddling in their original programming? Unless he's getting something completely confused right now. Sounds like the guy was granting the robots additional skills.
And as for the commands... Does he know how NOT FAST a Roomba is?! Bakugo gives him a strange look when the bookworm starts talking about personalities. The hell? This guy's a crazy fanatic!]
How long have you been cooped up in your room...
[Stuck in there with nothing but books and Roombas.]
I haven't met you before today. I've only seen you around the base.
[So no, he has not seen Taryon fight. The idea of this guy who dotes on machines and passes out books being a hand to hand fighter is a bullshit stretch.]
These aren't any ordinary roombas, I'm telling you. Magic can be used in anything, no matter what's inside in. Actually, it's better if I'm infusing it into something complex made from expensive components. Spells stick to it better.
[It's all very complex and esoteric, but it makes sense to anyone studying magic.]
I've — I have a job. [Rather defensive, considering that he spent most of his free time in his room when he was young.] I go out and talk to people. I'm not some sort of disheveled hermit, you know.
[Unfortunately, Bakugo has not seen any evidence that he is, in fact, a cool adult.]
I'll see what I can do. Do you wear gloves? Gauntlets? I can upgrade that, if you'd like.
[Which is what he initially suspected. And said. Makes sense why he can teleport, fly, or however else he gets the machines from one place to another to do... whatever he's doing with them.]
Uh-huh. You're personifying robots.
[Maybe not a disheveled hermit's normal route, but it's definitely an available one.]
No one touches my gauntlets but me. The LILITH techs do what I let them.
[Putting that out there immediately. Changing his costume or his hero gear seems like a treachery to his world. But at the same time... Bakugo leans back on his hands.]
I've read about them. They're an explosive that detonates a set time after you activate them and throw them. We have weapons like that, although they're chemical-based.
[Answer: he knows about them in theory.]
Are you...suggesting that I make one? I can't say it will work like the ones of this world, but I could tinker up one based in alchemical principles and some magic. Something infused with an explosions spell? A fireball?
[Not quite what he had in mind, but as Taryon talks, Bakugo changes his intention. Rather than letting the man enchant some of his own makeshift grenades, now he's curious to see what sort of "grenades" this tech mage can come up with on his own.]
Aa. Come up with five different variations and see if you can impress me.
[Of course he's gonna turn this into a challenge! Make Taryon work his brain more and give Bakugo an interesting surprise when he finishes.]
Five?! [He blurts his surprise before he can catch himself.] I mean - sure, I can do such thing. Once we have a laboratory open to us Outsiders, I'll get right do it!
[He gives Bakugo a thumbs up.]
You'll get your weapons.
[Five, though...he can do a basic exploding one, but what other variations can he do when he doens't have access to common magical ingredients. A mystery that he will have to solve himself.]
[Oh? His brow arches towards his bangs at Tayron's exclamation. Could be a few reasons for that. He's piqued, and looking kinda smug about catching the mage off guard.]
Too much for you, smart guy?
[And there he goes, putting his composure back together. A laboratory they can use means it'll have to wait until they return to their normal base. But he doesn't have a due date.]
I'm looking forward to this.
[Hey, if it explodes, that's the most important part.]
