Ren's Persona and Kadaj's wolves seemed more the kind to listen to orders rather than run off and be their own person. Maybe that's how they got by? Or if they were their own person, that part of them was left behind when they were brought over, like Manjoume's duel monsters.]

They couldn't talk back to him or act out on their own, but they could still follow orders and physically interact with things.
