[Bakugo's taken aback at the message dumping into his mental inbox as stands outside his room, eyes widening slightly in a telltale scanning action. Reading over the words brings a flurry of emotions back. Frustration over not having been able to prevent Dan Heng's capture, sadness at what he had to endure in the cult, and anger over the quiet call for help within the message. A letter written in the loneliness of captivity, bemoaning his own weakness yet still trying to stay strong and caring as he and his fellow Outsiders fought their own battle as best they could from within the walls.
If this message had come when it was timestamped, Bakugo would have had far different to say about it. Demanding to know where the dragon was, any coordinates or hints at his location, a promise that they'd be there soon to rescue him. But it hadn't come then; it came now. Too late. Too little. But he can't dismiss this as pointless either.]
I'll make sure you can kick anyone's fucking ass next time.
[Normally it would've come with a cocky threat or a promise, but Bakugo can't find it in himself to augment the words with his usual violent assurances. Not after what Dan Heng went through.]
You got your powers back, right? They can't shut them off forever.
[Not the cult, not even LILITH. Their abilities are their own, tethered to their own worlds and separate. Even if it takes ripping the ocular out of their heads, they can regain them over time.]
You guys fought as hard as you could. I wish we could've found you sooner.
[It almost feels like he should apologize for the failure, but Dan Heng would likely brush it off as not his responsibility to do so. Doesn't change the feeling.]
Damn right I'll critique your scaly butt for getting kidnapped. Prepare to get owned next time we spar.
[In another world, had Dan Heng miraculously gotten through the communications error and received Bakugo’s heated, determined reply, it would have been just what he needed. Receiving a more subdued, gentler response now as he heals…well. The hero’s right. It’s not pointless, if Bakugo saw fit to respond so quickly.
Dan Heng finds his lips quirking up in a crooked smile, small but amused at his friend’s style of comfort. Rough around the edges, yet effective all the same.]
Understood. Looking forward to it. [Thank you for not leaving me there, for not giving up on me even when I’d failed to avoid being captured.]
This is…true. It took some time for my command of the waters and cloudsong to return in full, but I’m glad for it. They accelerated the healing process considerably. I should be up for the Healing Touch surgery soon even. Maybe it can help if things get…bad again.
[Dan Heng has. No idea the storm he’s invoking saying that even offhandedly. Still he pauses at the next part, growing somber. He…also feels like he could have done more. Fought harder. “You guys fought as hard as you could.”
He…reads that over a couple times, trying to believe it. He starts to, a little.]
Thank you. I’m…glad you all found us when you did, though. Any later and… [There would have been many more than three dead. Even if those “few” casualties alone tear him up to think about. ] What matters is you found us, despite the numerous odds stacked against you. So thank you. Truly. I knew you all would find a way. [Even when his memory slipped into the past…Dan Heng still faintly remembered that someone came to free him from the chains and walls back then. And they did again...
More amusement that can only be called fond. ]
There are not scales on-- nevermind. Being kidnapped was not a choice on my part. I would not recommend it. [-11/10, horrible venue, lackluster service, and violent fanatics for staff. Horrible. ] I look forward to your advice on avoiding it in the future. I’ll be back to sparring before you know it.
[He just has to handle the smaller “sparring” like physical therapy, for now. Ugh.]
[He could have ignored the delayed message, opted to let it sit in silence so as to not remind Dan Heng of the pain and fear he went through while he composed it. Yet so much of it was heartfelt, encouraging himself and focusing on the future to make it out alive, Bakugo couldn't leave it without a response. But since the dragon was in his room while he responded to it... he let the answer come back, but sat on the return until a while later. Dan Heng deserved his attention while they were in person.
So it's llater, when they weren't together, the air was quiet, things were settled. Later that night? Maybe even the next day. A period where they both had the time.]
Are you up to full strength compared to your level back home? A lot of our powers were nullified or downgraded when we arrived here. Their shitty teleportation crap's responsible.
[And just in case Dan Heng needs an example.]
I could take down a skyscraper back home, but when I got here, I could barely blow up a fucking car. It took months to train back up to my full strength.
[Better than some people, whose powers were nerfed to oblivion or didn't even arrive with them. Bakugo frowns at the mention of the healing surgery. This is a touchy subject for him, since he doesn't like the lack of painkillers and anesthetics involved in the surgery. Something he's made quiet explicitly clear in the past, and is currently working on a solution to.
Perhaps it's because the guy's still recovering that Bakugo doesn't erupt at him like he usually would. But there's irritation pumping through the words as he curtly responds with a truth dump.]
Hold off on it until next year. Those bastards won't give you any anesthetic during the surgery. Shashou and I are working on something to fix that.
[As much as Bakugo hates the idea of implants, upgrades, and other cybernetic technological enhancements at LILITH's hands, the healing implant is the only one that continues to tempt and guilt him. As a hero, he should accept ways to grow stronger and help people. But sacrificing a piece of himself to a corporation that still retains control of that implant? ... The idea creeps him out and clashes with the guilt.]
Don't dwell on the what if's. It'll only make you feel like shit. [Scaring him, prompting dread. Nightmares. He doesn't want Dan Heng to deal with those omens.] Next time I'm fucking chaining people to each other when we go to sleep.
[Above everything else that happened in Romania, Bakugo's confused and pissed the cultists somehow stole that many of their number away from them. Even people sleeping in the same fucking room-- SAME FUCKING BED!! With no answers has to how outside some form of goddamn teleportation.]
I know that, dammit! It's no one's choice! [Unless they're staging or faking it. Does that sound like Bakugo has some familiarity with the feeling? ... Yep, he does. And does not want the reminder.] Focus on healing and physical therapy for now. Rush it, and I'll tie you to the fucking bed until the doctors are done.
[There is something to be said about facing and talking about traumatic events with others. And sure Dan Heng was awkward about the message, but it was…it was kind of Bakugo, to acknowledge it as soon as he could. Just as he would have if the comms weren’t down. It was an acknowledgement of past pain and fears without being pitying. Support. Care. Needless to say it’s very appreciated.
But stuff like this is easier to handle at a later time. Likely the next day yes, since the dragon has been doing alot of sleeping lately. He’s being good and resting!! Mostly.]
Really? That’s…that sounds frustrating. [It’s no wonder the hero trains so fervently…if his power levels were reduced so drastically…] My powers seem normal being here, but. It’s more of a…how should I put this… My powers are more potent around the place I was born. The arbor waters respond readily to the call of the cloudhymns. I believe the sea is…still parted on the Xianzhou Luofu, even when I’m not there, solely because I wished it to be. [((and totally not because the game needs that area to stay open for gameplay continuity reasons- I’m having it make as much sense as I can here lmaooo))] My powers dampen away from my birthplace. Part of that had to do with the exile, and trying to stay hidden. Cloudhymn is easier to use around a body of water, but I can make do with imaginary energy when needed. That remains unchanged.
It was just…it was all gone, in the
In the castle. And it took some time to come back completely upon leaving. It was…frustrating.
[Hmm. The surgeries are turning out to be a divisive topic, Dan Heng is finding…oops.]
They don’t? But they offered anesthetic when explaining the procedure to me…I wasn’t aware this was not common. It’s…probably because of…the mission. [An apology of sorts…? If it’s rare, all the more reason to go through with it.] I wouldn’t go through with it if they didn’t offer that. I’d. Probably attack whoever was operating on me out of instinctual retaliation. [He'd bite them. He does not want to bite Doctor Spim.] It’s good to hear you’re working to solve that. Let me know if I can help in growing things.
…Also who is Shashou? [It translates to train conductor…?? ...when did Pom-Pom make it here? ...Not likely to be Pom-Pom.
Poor Bakugo. On Dan Heng’s end, he’s always been regretful he didn’t inherit Dan Feng’s ability to heal. That went to Bailu, his little sister, in a strange power split he doesn't fully understand. In the end she serves as a doctor for the people, which is good, but…inheriting only the destructive capabilities of Dan Feng’s legacy always bothered the dragon more than he cared to admit….he doesn’t…trust LILITH very much, but he knows they have the desire to help, and that others have had successful surgeries like this. He’s already recovering from one thing, what’s another (no)? If it’ll help in the future...]
…You’re right. It's pointless to dwell on. I should get more reading material or something. [Distractions. It’s part of why Dan Heng keeps wandering around. It’s too easy to fall into that sort of dread when idle.] I. Understand the sentiment, but please don’t use chains if you plan to keep people together during rest. [The thought still makes him cringe. Even if said in jest(?).
It is strange. Drugging is likely in this scenario, to keep the Outsiders unaware and unconscious, but Dan Heng knows for a fact some of the kidnapped people, like Loop, don’t eat. Perhaps it was influence of the kaiju itself… ((IE. I asked the mods and they said basically that with an ask to just roll with stuff jshdfhsd so uh. I will believe kaiju BS. But also can you imagine a cultist trying to grab say Denji and getting an attached Bakugo too? 2-for-1 deal, sucker!))
Dan Heng chuckles softly at the outburst there. That. That’s normal.] Yeah. Agreed. [No one in their right mind would want to go through that. But it was a choice to get out, and he’s grateful to those who chose to rescue them.] Will do. You don’t have to go to that trouble, I’m not an idiot. It’s just…hard. To stay “resting”, laying around while others are struggling or grieving. I know it’s necessary. I know. It’s just difficult.
[Good thing Dan Heng's not here to see Bakugo roll his eyes when the dragon mentions his powers being at full capacity here. Figures. He leans back on his bed as he reads through the explanation. A lot of what the guy says makes zero sense to him and likely doesn't have anything to do with his capability in Neo Tokyo slaying kaiju. But...]
You split a sea in half?
[And it's staying in half because Dan Heng wants it to be? Is this a good time to tell him he doesn't think their presence in this world remotely affects their real worlds? Which Bakugo believes are "paused" for all their current selves are concerned. Returning home places them right back where they were taken from, with no memories of this place, and if they come back, the same "Pause button" effect happens, as the return here with new memories from home added to their previous Neo Tokyo memories right where they left off. Maybe not a good time for that discussion...]
So your powers are only weakened here, since you're away from your world? Know-it-All told me about Imaginary energy. You guys can still use it here even though it's not part of your world.
[It makes sense that Dan Heng would be briefly de-powered after his experience in the caste. Bakugo doesn't want to dwell on that any more than they already have with the dragon's comment. Yeah hang on a second-]
What the hell do you mean they offered anesthetics?! You got the implant already?! [This is the first time he's ever heard of and Outsider getting anesthetics when they got an implant/upgrade surgery. (Link me to Dan Heng's surgery request; I need to see this for myself.) He's irked now.] No one should have to go through that damn procedure without any anesthesia! They always say they're saving what they have for life saving operations.
[And technically, powering up the Outsiders to do better is going to SAVE LIVES! Ugh, Bakugo's been harping on this thing since fucking summer. Though he's only really been able to make progress on it this month. At least something good came out of that goddamn trip to Romania.]
Raidou.
[Raidou's nickname is a little more OOC, but he immediately reminded me of these guys when I saw him, so "Shashou" stuck since the beginning. Japanese conductors do wear similar outfits, or at least the hats... Go with it.]
You should do something more active as well. If you only read, you're still alone in your head. [And while he's aware that can be a great distraction, it would only take the wrong combination of words or mentioned idea to send a flashback. As was proven just now when Bakugo rashly mentioned chains. He mentally facepalms and drags his hand down his visage with a brain full of cuss words. Goddammit!] Everyone shares a fucking sleeping bag then.
[Yeah I actually noticed your question to the mods and had to laugh because they were "please have mercy!" which I totally understand. BUT STILL!! If you're gonna poof away kidnapping and you know people sleep together, might want to have at least some comment on how. Sheesh. I know you can't cover all the tiny details, but that's not exactly "tiny" when you're dealing with seasoned battlers who are already obviously weirded out by the circumstances. Enough that others didn't eat or ate very little. Could've just said "kaiju bs" and I wold've "oh okay" without a problem. Anyways, enough ooc griping from me.]
Yeah, yeah. But you're not gonna make anyone feel better if you drag your bleeding ass into their room. They'll just freak out about your health instead. [Because so many of you extras are nice people who want to care about everyone else except yourselves. Ugh. Bakugo has too many of those kinds of companions. WHY?! Says the guy who grumpy checks in on people all the time.] Text them or call them. They'll get the intent.
[Listen, he’s trying. His mun went and asked Ratio’s mun about this even. Not like it helped much, since Dan Heng’s way of understanding all this is kinda different from the scholar’s.]
Yes. I’m more attuned to the Arbor waters, since they were where I was born. [Also being the reincarnated high elder probably has alot to do with that. But he doesn’t. Have to go into that.] People who cannot breathe underwater needed to reach the homeland, so I removed the obstacle.
[Thankfully he’s had that "origin worlds on pause" conversation in part with Yuji. It was both reassuring and confusing…Dan Heng doesn’t look forward to one day returning to his visit to the Shackling Prisons and all the chaos going on there with the escaped Borisin Warhead but. Well. At least it also meant he wasn’t just disappeared and leaving Orion to fend for himself…still very much an existential crisis waiting to happen if thought about too much.]
I believe so. It’s hard to tell for sure. There are many factors with imaginary energy- ah yeah so Dr. Ratio told you some about it. Perhaps it has to do with cognitive abilities; I’m more familiar with the waters of the Arbor, so I can construct and use them more easily, make shapes I'm most familiar with. But if there’s water already there to use…it takes less work to just use that. But even then it probably only works because I believe it to be so…
I’m sure the doctor gave you better information on the matter. Researching paths and aeons and the power they grant has been a topic of study for ages. I’m sure he has a firmer grasp on the measurements and specifics of it all. It is…fortunate that our power still works in a world separate from these beings.
[Be grateful Bakugo’s canon offers concise explanations for how powers work. Be very glad. And yeah move aside trauma this is more important-]
Oh. So that’s not normal. Yes, they said I had the option to be put under general anesthesia during the process. I agreed, and I’ll be going through with it tomorrow. It’ll be alright. [He was about to say he’s had worse but remembers comments like that aren’t exactly comforting. (And lmao I took so long to get back to you, you probably went and found it already, but yea it’s real. Looks like many outsiders have gotten the privilege of being sedated with poppies and the like for recent procedures too. Yay progress?)]
And. Hm. I agree, but I can see the reasoning. Still. Some people can die from the shock and pain of that sort of thing. [He’s. Pretty sure he was put under when LILITH operatives worked on putting his legs back together in Romania. Silver Rails above it’s a good thing they did; the dragon may very well have gotten much worse if he had to be awake for that. So. Yeah. Owch. He’s really lucky here, even if this is likely an apology thing on LILITH's behalf.]
Oh. Raidou is a kind soul, I’m not surprised. And…I suppose his hat does kind of look like a conductor’s… [...seeing as how Dan Heng is thinking of a bipedal little rabbit, the nickname is kind of endearing actually. He’s distinctly not going to share that however…and it’s the Submas dudes isn’t it- YEAH same!! Raidou looks like he could be their little brother, fr.]
That’s a good point. I suppose gardening is looking more and more appealing here. Not too strenuous, but still active. [And Dan Heng likes the greenhouse. Nice and warm there. Bakugo’s doing his best, the dragon knows that. A smile quirks up on his lips.] I suppose LILITH needs to invest in bigger sleeping bags then.
[Ah you spotted my suffering! Lmao…yeah…listen I’ve never modded a game so big, but I have GMed some tabletop rpgs, and just. Sometimes it’s BS from the monster. Players will believe that. I would roll with it. It’s what I am rolling with here really. Yeah that’s a pretty big detail…alas. I do feel sheepish for stressing the mods out haha oops…]
I mean I’d make sure not to bleed- oh. Hyperbole. Right. Alright alright I get your point. That…wouldn’t be conducive to rest on either front. [Such is the price of having good aligned friends, Bakugo. Especially of the “shounen protag” variety. But also it’s easier to ignore one’s own problems when fussing over others…hypocrisy abounds!] …I suppose that works. Texting and calling are…preferable to whatever check-in system Mr. Godzilla’s been employing recently. [Sir. Please stop screaming at dawn A.M.]
[You know, Bakugo's gonna let you two talk about Imaginary Energy and that shit; he'll be blowing things up with his Quirk without needing crazy explanations. Maybe accepting "it just works" as the reason is the better choice.]
Your world doesn't have boats?
[Ironically being more attuned to certain waters is easier to swallow, especially since Dan Heng was born there. The way he said he simply "removed the obstacle" meaning a fucking ocean is ridiculous. How powerful are these guys in their own world? At least someone else explained the "world pause" thing to him already. Yuji probably did well enough with the description.]
He told me your powers get boosted by familiarity. Then we argued about whether Imaginary Energy is really here or some fucked-up stand-in for everyone's variant of energy.
[Yeah, it was kind of charged, especially because Ratio kicked it off by calling Bakugo an idiot. Or at least implying it. Did not go over well. At least the argument was relatively peaceful despite that, neither side really "winning" since it boiled down to an arbitrary unknown.
As for Quirks, well... some have tried to be explained by science, and some are biologically explained, but most of them don't have any explanation beyond Quirk mutations make it possible. How else can you explain a human body making explosive sweat without blowing his own face, eardrums, and hands off? To say the least.]
Get the name of that fucking doctor.[Damn right he's going to slam open the hospital doors and yell at the staff! They didn't do shit for other people! Why the hell is this special treatment? (And then realize they did it because the Outsiders already suffered enough in Romania and will grumpily but understandingly accept the reason and stomp off irked like.) It's not going to be the normal until they get more supplies. Sounds more like the hospital did this current thing as a mercy.]
That's why they need to put people under before they cut into their damn bodies! [Damn bastards. No one should have to endure that kind of suffering while awake, especially if they have ways of putting them under for the process. Bakugo scowls into the air above him, but is forced to accept the reality and settle his contempt. At least Dan Heng was able to benefit from this, though he's not happy to hear he's getting the implant. He'll keep that to himself. Plenty of his companions have undergone the procedure. It's not his place to tell them what they can and can't do with their bodies.]
That's what I fucking said!
[Raidou looks like a train conductor! So his nickname sticks! Why the hell are you thinking about a rabbit, Dan Heng? Nevermind, Bakugo does not want to know. He can deal with Raidou being one wide-set coat short of a Pokemon trainer from another world.]
They better. No one better sleep alone if we're going on abroad missions. [Hell, he's half leaning towards a communal room, but considering they were kidnapped with zero evidence or struggle, it's all for fucking naught if they're dealing with magical shit. But Bakugo's stubborn, so... we'll see.
Hey, sometimes the mods have to be asked the sheepish question so they know people are thinking about this. It means people are invested and care, despite the stress it can put on the mods. People inquire when they want to know because they give a shit. It's only natural.]
That goddamn lizard! I brained him with a fucking barbell to shut him up!
[No, he was NOT happy to have Godzilla roaring at 3AM in the morning! Look, he gets the guy's heart and intent were in the right place but WHAT THE FUCKING HELL!? Bakugo has every intention of coming across Godzilla in a good restful sleep and then detonating an explosion right beside him. "Just letting you know I'm safe" when he wakes up. Yeah. It'll be glorious.

(Link me to Dan Heng's surgery request; I need to see this for myself.)He's irked now.] No one should have to go through that damn procedure without any anesthesia! They always say they're saving what they have for life saving operations.[And technically, powering up the Outsiders to do better is going to SAVE LIVES!

Date: 11/27/24 09:52 (UTC)Yes.

Date: 12/2/24 23:59 (UTC)Your world doesn't have boats?
He's a very petty person...]
