Smokescreen. So you generate smoke or explode in one big cloud?

[Psh, not too special. He can do a smokescreen of his own. Hmph.]

The former. I thought you could give me some pointers without me having to strain to get them from the sixth.

My smokescreens are made differently than that one. It's not the "point" of my Quirk. Just one of the perks.

[ It's just off into the shallows! So they may get away with a bit of wading...and coral lighting up as they get closer. ]

I know that, Kacchan. But I can't use it like it's the "point" either; I have to use it like a tool rather than the main weapon...and you know how to do that, don't you? Or at least you can help me practice.

[Shallows it is! Katsuki's going to only protest putting more of that fucking paint on, so he's fine for a wade or even a brief swim/snorkel if they want to go closer. Still looks pretty cool, seeing the faint glow out there under the water.]

[Katsuki's Quirk is extremely versatile. Every part of his Explosions can be used in their own right. Light. Sound. Heat. Smoke. Pressure. Force. Fire. Wind. Propulsion. Izuku's Quirks seem to be the same, lots of basics coming together around the stockpile of power.]

Is that all you produce or is it a byproduct? I can't simply "make smoke" stealthily.

[If he wants a big smokescreen, everyone's going to hear it. So he's mostly getting at the process of the smokescreen.

[There's a clear night... and now there's a fucking fog bank rolling in. Katsuki jerks a hand up to his face, waving at it as the smoke crawls through his senses.]

[ LOOK that would be the smart thing and sometimes for a smart person Izuku chooses the dumb thing and runs with it - ]

I-I did! I'd have to blow it away or we have to wait for it to, uh, dissipate...

[ He doesn't quite know how to make it zap away immediately, even if he can. ]

[You're telling him! Katsuki's already backing up a little, waving his hand in front of his face while the other one comes up to cover his mouth. He's not wearing a mask, you moron! Do you even know what the fuck's in this smoke? What it's made of?]

Get up in the fucking air!

[And actually makes to grab Izuku by the collar and throw him upwards. Float, fucker!

Before aiming a hand down and blasting a flat, wide explosion below him. Clears the cloud around them quickly, scorching a crater of sand with it. But at least it gives him room to fucking breathe.

[ He floats when thrown. That Quirk, at least, he's adapted to pretty well, although with the spin from being yanked and tossed he ends up floating upside down, not readjusting but more looking down at Katsuki, sheer embarrassment and concern there. ]

I-it's just smoke... [ Nothing dangerous. ] Sorry, Kacchan, it's a bit touchy.

I'm not gonna sit here and breathe "just smoke" either.

[He stands up and waves a hand to clear the ironic cloud of smoke his own explosion just caused, but it's a smaller cloud than Izuku's, so he can walk out of it.

Unless he runs around and drags walls of explosions around, the resulting smoke tends to be centralized.]

[ Izuku sighs, dragging his hands down his face. Or up them, when he's hanging like this? He should right himself and yet... ]

Sorry, Kacchan. It wasn't on purpose...it's like trying to drive multiple cars at the same time if I get nervous?

[If he'd been floating while smoking with warning, he might've cut him more slack... Then again, Katsuki's pretty hard on him expectation wise regardless.]

Not all of us were blessed with control from the age of four.

[ He's joking. He knows it wasn't as precise as that back then - although the amount of times he was blown up on accident don't compare at all to the amount of times he was blown up on purpose.

Izuku reaches an arm down to grab Katsuki's shoulder for balance and leverage to use to reorient his feet before he drops Float. Using him like an anchor. ]

But you can see what it's like basically - I can't make smoke where I'm not, so I have to gauge how much to come from me...

[And yet in less than a year and a half, you've managed to so much fucking progress with your Quirk, you're rivaling bastards who've had theirs their entire lives.

A thought he refuses to say, but the glare in his expression probably hints at some of those feelings behind his eyes. And screw you. His accidental explosions were done by the time he was six. (Well, then thirteen happened and wow.)

He lets him use his shoulder as a brace, but shrugs him off once he's right-side up. You're not getting away with that for long, brat.]

So it's less like a stage trick and more like dropping smoke grenades in the streets.

[ It's okay! Izuku won't read that thought in Katsuki's gaze because he always thinks he isn't progressing fast enough. He's on a constant time limit set by the world and he feels like he's failing to meet it...

But Katsuki's familiar with Izuku's insecurity about his own capabilities that flairs up from time to time. He's kind of a huge part of why those insecurities exist. ]

That's right. So - something to use during a fight, but I'd have to be careful. Maybe get some goggles, because I'm not immune...

[Wha- Wasn't he right there when All Might told Katsuki about Izuku's growth being greater in ratio because he just started? How can he still think he's not going fast enough?! ... Oh right, because he's a damn perfectionist overachiever too. With deep insecurity issues.

Katsuki regards him with a silent gaze, trying to think about how this is going to go forward. Does he try to handle this like All Might and coach him? (In something he has zero idea about?) Or does he let the wielders inside Izuku do that part? (Can they?)

He folds his arms across his chest.]

[ They're both perfectionists in the worst way possible (though also good ways sometimes...?) so yes he still believes he has to improve a ton.

He's probably standing a hair too close. Not touching, but closer than he would have been standing a few months ago, in an almost absent minded way.

[ He cups his hands and looks down because looking helps, so he can stop if too much comes out.

It's ironically a little harder to concentrate it on one limb in addition to volume - some wisps get out elsewhere, even if he's focusing. ]

[Katsuki doesn't notice it at the moment since he's still being a secret nerd and thinking about Izuku's new Quirk. Smokescreen. Combined with Danger Sense, Blackwhip, and Float, those four make a pretty varied toolset for the empowerment One for All gives him.

His brain's already going, theorizing ways Izuku could put them all together, and how he's going to both combat them and surpass them. Because he can't--he refuses--to lose to Izuku in anything.]

Katsuki breaks from his thoughts to watch, noticing the smoke from Izuku's body.]

Okay, stop. It doesn't seem like it's meant for focused exiting. So trying letting out only three seconds, from everywhere, then cutting it off.

[ He can do that easier - and three seconds, trying to control the amount - it's more of a mist this time? But still smoke. ]

[Katsuki watches, not even sure how he can judge this beyond "it did something" and that being that.]

[ They've forgotten about the coral for now, but Izuku will remember later. For now, he's totally caught up in the new aspect of his Quirk.

This time, he does a count of six, trying to increase the smoke.

Less easy to see through. ]

[Coral versus New Quirk. Fucking guess which one he's interested in. For all his stoic and denial, Katsuki's still a super huge nerd and it's impossible to completely hide it in the face of this.

He's slowly getting an idea of the intentions behind the Quirk.]

Seems more like an all or nothing deal... Put out a lot or don't bother.

[The smaller attempts are good for controlling it, but he's starting to see little practical use behind the weaker releases.]

It's not going below the water, either. So it's like normal smoke.

[ Rain probably would make it a bit less effective, or require a higher output...Izuku's muttering to himself (and Katsuki) as he thinks about it. ]

[A burst of smoke to obscure the surrounding areas and the motions being done inside. Not for covering oneself for a momentary illusion or distraction.
