God, okay, that would definitely be hard. There is something in Izuku that cannot imagine the world without Katsuki in it. If this question had been the other way around - the hostage's arm, Katsuki's throat - or even if it was either or for life or death...
It's Katsuki every time.
An arm - even an arm he doesn't want to give up. Even now he wants to argue and say he could save them both. ]
The hostage.
[ If it's not Katsuki's life, he can do it. He thinks. ]
This is exactly what he's thinking about. It's probably why there's a divide between heroes who like to team up with other heroes and those who prefer to remain solo. To have bonds is a strength and a weakness, just like going at it by yourself.
Katsuki is well aware of Izuku's preferential treatment of him. He saw it in the training grounds, when the other boy refused treatment and came charging through the battlefield to... ugh, protect him. Even getting Tokoyami and Shoji wrapped up in it. All because he couldn't leave Katsuki well enough alone.
Results asides, the core issue remains.]
Easy to say.
[Yes, he doubts the answer. That's what that means.]
[ It would make it feel a little better if he could at all accuse Katsuki of having a similar weakness, but Izuku doesn't think that's the case. Latest chapters nonwithstanding, he's always had issues seeing himself as worthwhile to other people, while never having an issue in seeing the worth of others.
It's not pervasive in a way that makes him depressed or unsure precisely, but it's a blind spot he has yet to fix. ]
It's true that I can't imagine the world without you in it, Kacchan.
But I don't see that as a weakness. You're one of my biggest strengths.
[They've all seen Izuku acting like that before, throwing himself into the fray, heedless of the dangers, risking life and limb to protect someone he barely knows, if not a total stranger. But that's one of the duties of being a hero. To be ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of those who can't protect themselves.
But sometimes Katsuki wonders if Deku has a fucking death wish or if the years of being told he's worthless and useless might have done way more psychological damage that Izuku's not willing to face. And yet, as the others in the class have shown, they're willing to protect Izuku as well, even from himself. They clearly see him as worthwhile. As many others do.
Katsuki, however, can't help but see the glaring flaw in the other hero's feelings. Such an exploitable weakness. Hell, HE'S able to take advantage of it himself, if he so wanted. Which he doesn't Ewugh.]
A strength is a weakness. Look at our Quirks. Almost everyone would call them our greatest strengths. But what the hell do you think would happen if we couldn't control them anymore?
Like that girl you rescued. Her biggest strength is her biggest weakness.

Baka. I know that. But you need to know when to keep that in check.
