[Taking help. Asking for it. It again boils down to the reason "why" they have such a hard time with "help" from others, but still means they're difficult about it. Perhaps someday they can team up without something horrific being on the line. Namely them.

Katsuki flicks open the package, expertly knocking the tape off and not ripping the thing open like a rampaging beast like he used to do as a kid. Takes a bit to actually find the fucking thing amid the crumpled paper (DON'T USE SO MUCH FOR A SMALL GIFT, DAMMIT!).

He's left, however, looking silently at a set of earrings, eyes widening for a second in surprise, before narrowing into his normal expression. Immediately he can tell they're custom made for him.

It saves Izuku from getting beaned in the face by a wrapping paper cannonball for that old man comment. Asshole.]

[WHAT THE FUCK?! DON'T EAGERLY SNATCH THE NEXT ONE WITHOUT APPRECIATING HIS SILENT BLINK OF APPRECIATION AND CURIOSITY!!

But alas, he's already opening it and what comes out is a long black tube. The kind a poster comes in. Of course Izuku would recognize that. But lo, there it lies, complete with rubber topping that "pop" comes off with the pull. Out slides a plastic-wrapped poster. Once opened and unwrapped...

An All Might poster. Glossy and laminated. Just like home. Standing tall and proud in his classic pose, Golden Age costume on full display, with the words "I am Here!" emblazoned on the background.]

[ He is waiting to open it until Katsuki's done! He just grabbed it to have it ready and so we could save a comment about it.

Also, you're right: the paper is crumpled because he used way too much of it and panicked. Wow. It's like Katsuki was there as he did it! ]

Um, I researched a bunch of jewelry shops that did custom orders and went with the best one. I can't really return these ones since they're custom but if you don't like them I can try to find something else to replace them - ?

Izuku, your gift wrapping is too telling. Kind of like your tie and other things that scream "Did this myself and I'm not the greatest but it's done with love and passion!" which makes you the greatest.

And look at him, guessing Katsuki's question without needing more than a broken pair of cut off words at the beginning.

Even if he wants to smack him for instantly assuming Katsuki doesn't want to keep them. He looks at Izuku with a surprisingly calm expression.]

I like them. [The faintest of smiles at the corner of his mouth.] Thanks.

[Before being a big shit and turning his head to show Izuku his pierced ear, one hand moving to brush some of his hair to the side.]

[ Of course he assumes Katsuki doesn't want them at first; Izuku's been agonizing for months about this (alongside agonizing about planning to still be here for Christmas, but, well, he'd be somewhere for Christmas anyway right?) and he's been nervous about every single gift. He got more than one gift just to see if he could manage to get at least one right.

He used to get decent gifts for Katsuki, he thinks, but they were children then.

The calm tone and almost smile cuts through his anxiety like a knife through butter, though, and Izuku relaxes. Goes to take out Katsuki's current earring and replaces it with the orange X. ]

You're welcome, Kacchan. It looks really good on you.

[Katsuki would give him a look if he knew Izuku had thought he'd be kicked out of the house for Christmas (but then again, who's Katsuki got to blame for Izuku having those thoughts but himself?). Turns out shopping for Izuku wasn't easy, mostly because this was the first time he actually put some thought into it instead of just reluctantly getting one cause his mother forced him or straight up ignoring him, and because there was no hero store gushing with All Might merch he could safely grab whatever from the shelf for.

That said, it's not like he stopped at one gift either... After that apology on the pond, it's become clear that despite not expecting a change between them, there's a shit load he has to make up and atone for. Whether Izuku sees that as necessary or not. That's Katsuki's choice.

Still, the earrings are good. Enough he gives a sincere compliment to them without thinking much about how happy it'd make Izuku to hear it. The one he's wearing now is a simple black stud, almost forgot he had it in there. But he lets him deal with the change, getting a feel for the extra weight. It's bigger than a stud, so for a few seconds, there's a difference in the hang. Then settles as he looks at Izuku.

Doesn't even get to ask the question before the other boy answers him. Figures.]

[ He doesn't really know how often Katsuki will wear either of these, if at all. But it means a lot Katsuki immediately put one on. Izuku passes the box back to him, laughing a little. ]

You always say my taste is terrible, though.

[ And he's not wrong...

Izuku goes to unwrap his own present. He can tell it's probably a poster from the shape? He's received a lot over Christmases and birthdays. But Izuku's in no way expecting to see All Might when he unfurls the poster. All Might isn't a thing here, and Izuku laments that every day. ]

[He will probably wear them a lot. Perhaps not so often on stakeouts due to not wanting to get slugged in the face and lose it. But who knows. Truth is, he likes the gift and he takes the box back to set beside him.]

Maybe you can surprise me for once.

[Izuku surprises him a lot, plenty he won't admit (even if some are fucked up, like Blackwhip's first show), and plenty that simply confirm what Katsuki already knows and begrudgingly has to acknowledge.

He leans back on the couch as Izuku opens his gift.

Of course he can expect a poster; that's a shit given unless he bothered putting it in a box. (Or got him a short billiards cue.) The question...]

Scoped out that seedy little pawn shop between the Sapphire and Emerald Districts. Trinket's or some fuck like that. They occasionally get shit from people's homes.

[He paid the owner to keep an eye out and checked in regularly. Took half a fucking year to get lucky.]

[ Too bad he didn't get lucky back at Izuku's birthday. But Izuku will take this, eyes definitely shining a little.

He's so careful with the poster, in the way any collector would be. He'll have to frame it before he hangs it of course... ]

[That's the luck of the draw. Or however that works. Katsuki smirks a little at seeing the shine in Izuku's eyes, mostly because he's not bawling over there.

There's the collector's touch he knows so well from way back when. Still hasn't lost his touch, huh. Eh, there's plenty of stores that'll frame it.]

[ He meant could they still have sex there because he's seventeen and thinks about it a lot, generally specifically with Katsuki when he's idly considering it outside of events.

For now, he rolls it back up gently to put back in the case. Gotta protect it. ]

Izuku's been periodically locking himself in his room lately as he's been teaching himself something totally benign and non sexual no matter what Katsuki did or didn't think about this. That skill he's been learning is...knitting. So it's a blanket, made by painstaking amateur hands. This is like the fifth thing he ever made and he's not that confident but he put a lot of effort into it. There's probably a few mistakes in it, but there's a solid line pattern of green and orange and black. He wasn't confident enough to try shapes yet. ]

I made a few scarves but I didn't really want to make you one because um I'm not really that good and you probably wouldn't want to wear that attempt...but, um, the special thing is the yarn I used! Well. Kind of yarn.

[ Cooling yarn. Kinda pricey but Katsuki tends to overheat so he thought maybe this would be a good compromise?

Probably easier to go without. Izuku's looking hopeful like a cat who dragged in a dead mouse though. It's okay, at least the earrings were good. ]

[Um... Well... Maybe he should put it in his room without nailing it to the wall first and then decide after they give it a try. Because if he can't fuck with All Might grinning down at him, that's gonna pose some kind of problem? Unless Izuku's room is off limits for sex post-poster...]

[Why would you even tell him that? Katsuki gives him a Look for that before scanning over the presents resting under the tree. Lumpy package? Your time is up.

Gives it a few squeezes just to make sure there's nothing fragile in it before he goes at the wrapping. For a second, he's confused as the jumble of colors meet his eyes. Green, orange, black, obviously picked out for him that way. But upon grabbing it and pulling, the entire thing comes free in a rush of knitted amateur cascade. It's... a blanket? A knitted blanket. Before he has a chance to say something, Izuku's opening his mouth again.

At least he's not immediately retracting the present?]

[He knows Izuku likes to do crafts and he's not a disaster at them as much as his sometimes klutziness suggests. But still, pulling off an entire blanket---that actually looks like a blanket? With the colors as well. No comment about the scarves, but he does pull the blanket around his shoulders to shrug into it and check out the sensation. It's lighter than other knitted blankets. Smoother too.]

What kind of yarn?

[Considering the weather outside, overheating is not exactly gonna be a problem? Katsuki doesn't appear to dislike it though!]

[ Did Katsuki want a rambling dissertation on yarn? Because that's what goes here. For long long minutes. Until he either runs out of words or Katsuki stops him.

He also starts going into knitting techniques and research on them and having to do special things for different kinds of yarn... ]

[Someday he's going to learn never to ask Izuku anything beginning with "how" or "why" in regards to whatever he's got in front of him. Katsuki's expression goes from curious to the normal flat-faced wry when the other boy starts to spin his yarn (pun intended) about the kind of yarn he used.

Once he at least gets the initial abstract about cooling properties and the special quality, Katsuki drops his attention back to the blanket and does some personal inspection, tuning out the rambling across the way.

Only due to it being Christmas does Izuku get spared the snarky response about knitting himself a muzzle.]

We're not fucking on it.

[Laying down that ground rule right now. No fucking on his knitted cooling blanket. But he's going to drape it over his shoulders for now and wear it like a cape as he leans forward to scan the tree.]

[Most of Katsuki's presents to Izuku are box-shaped so there's less chance of guessing.]

[ Way to make him go bright red. He wasn't even thinking of it?!?! Can't decide if he's offended or touched Katsuki has decided the blanket has to be protected. Perhaps a potent mix of both. ]

[ He takes one at random to start opening. He habitually tries to open it without ripping the paper... ]

[Why the fuck are you offended he doesn't want to get your handmade knitted blanket dirty with sweat and come?! You ever tried hand washing a blanket before?! Cause knitted stuff can't simply be chucked in the wash with the rest of the sheets.

Learned that lesson the hard way before. Fucking hell.

Takes a bit of effort since he wrapped it up good, plus protective tissue and some bubble wrap (for popping later, of course). But there in the remains of the wrapping, lies two framed pictures, one black and green and one black and orange. One is a selfie Izuku took on the night of their dinner date at the Culture Appreciation festival dinner, with both of them dressed up and leaning in close, Izuku all smiles and Katsuki normal gremlin scowl (he yoinked it from Izuku's phone one time under cover of bitching about the photos he took of them). The other photo is the full-body official picture that was taken on their way into the venue, including holding hands in front, albeit with the same-ish expressions.]

[ Izuku has some pictures framed in his room - the, er, less spicy photo booth ones. The spicier ones are kept carefully locked away because Izuku's pretty sure he doesn't want to share them around currently. But he'd carefully gotten them enlarged to frame and put up, feeling ill at ease with no pictures at all. Usually he had a picture of his mother at least, but he doesn't have one here...

He's never actually barred Katsuki from his phone either. Izuku sometimes frets about him deleting anything but wouldn't stop him doing it - he'd just look mildly devastated if it were some of the pictures of them together. ]

You haven't worn a suit since then, huh?

[ He's beaming. Different kind of joy against the All Might poster. ]

[Katsuki has two, both because Izuku gave them to him and he ended up not leaving them in his drawer. He doesn't usually have pictures in his room, though he had one of his family back home.

Still, photobooth pictures aren't the same as those more "official dating" looking pictures that he wanted to give Izuku. He'd heard him mention wanting something like that earlier, so... Maybe another time they can do a photoshoot, but Katsuki's not really fond of the idea. why do they have to "prove" they're together for everyone else?

Truth be told, he would've been really weirded out if a picture of Midoriya-san showed up in the pawn shop compared to an All Might poster, so at least that was an avoided weirdness?]

Bullshit. We went out to the restaurant in them in November.

[A rare "fancy" date. And no, he doesn't rummage through Izuku's phone looking to delete pictures. He only did it that time so he didn't have to ask Izuku to send him the picture and thus possibly tip him off about the gift. Cause Izuku remembers shit like that...

At least the guy looks happy about it.]

Well, this month, then. [ He does like the fancy dates? Izuku isn't even a fancy person, they just feel somehow official in a way other dates don't always since it genuinely always feels like hanging out...

Which is probably how it's supposed to feel, actually.

We've been busy this month.

[With the events and snowboarding and going to visit shrines and dealing with Christmas and the decorations and the past fucking five days... Katsuki's not fond of dressing up and "stuffy" dates as he calls them, cause it's hard to shake the feeling of his parents dragging him to those things. But he goes out on them because he knows Izuku likes them.

Katsuki picks up the envelop and looks at Izuku with an arched brow.]

You kiss me in public.

[He's gonna leave it at that. Besides, he can always bitch about the photographer being a pain in the ass until they held hands, so yeah.]

Not in front of anyone we know.

[ He's careful about that. He's barely sure he's allowed to say they're dating, and it's a little hard to explain even if he does...but his clinginess does magically subside around people they know, generally. He doubts Katsuki's ever going to actually want to bring it up. Actually, he's only told exactly one person about it, largely because Izuku's aware it's sort of a house of cards. Is it dating if you're the only one who calls it that?

He just...chooses to believe it is. Katsuki said not to date anyone else, and he does a certain amount of dating things even though he's generally refused to ask Izuku on dates (or call things dates). And he doesn't argue the terminology all the time? Just sometimes. ]

And I'll stop if you want me to.

[ Inside are a reservation to a hotel at Primavera, near the mountain region; a gift card that should cover any gear Katsuki hasn't already bought and carefully researched information on the mountain climbing there.

And, since Katsuki didn't cover his mouth: ]

[Katsuki grunts in acknowledgement of that. Granted it's not like they do a lot of get togethers with a bunch of people they know, so generally safe from that happening. Still not saying anything about using the D-word around people. Katsuki certainly doesn't say it, but he's not been asked about it either and certainly hasn't been propositioned for a date. Well, there was one, but that was for a charity event and throwing a proverbial middle finger towards some asshole who wanted to be a dick. Ended up being far more a "hang out" than what Izuku would consider a "date" anyways, so safe.

They've done a lot more together than Katsuki's done with anyone else; that's no exaggeration.

If any of those things are "datey" things, then... he's not calling them that. (Though just cause you don't call a grape a 'grape' doesn't mean it's not a fucking grape.) Katsuki doesn't plan on stopping what they're doing either. Even said he wanted to go snowboarding again.]

Did I tell you to stop?

[So long as Izuku's willing to endure Katsuki's gripe face at getting kissed and sometimes growled at afterwards, then he's free to keep doing it? He's the one kissing the prickly grenade.

Katsuki arches a brow at the envelope's content. A mountain climbing excursion, with gear included. It's clear Izuku did his research. There's the same little smirk again, red eyes lighting up at the obvious challenge this is going to present him... Then someone's got to open his mouth again and Katsuki scans over the information again.]

We'll go in the spring. Fucking climbing with all this ice and snow.

[ There's no time limit for any of it, so it should be fine. Izuku's only had a little bit of experience in climbing mountains but, well, he can Float if he falls off of anything. So it's probably fine.

He relaxes a little when the third gift goes off without a hitch...he was hedging his bets at least one thing would be okay, but Katsuki didn't freak out about any of them. It's a victory of sorts.

He'll pull his last present over to open. ]

I do miss the warm weather, but...I'll miss the kotatsu.

[That's one of the reasons why Katsuki likes rock climbing. On top of it being completely thrilling to champion over the massive mountain of stone, and being a really good workout and nature enjoyment, if he does fall, he's not in danger of dying due to his Quirk.

For the same reason, he's not that concerned about Izuku falling either. Except maybe him not accounting for the line securing him to the mountain (if they go rope and tackle) and pendulumming himself into the wall. Splat!

Granted Katsuki's calmed down a somewhat since the start of the year and he and Izuku have had extra time here in Noctium, plus the gifts were all things he liked, so... No reason to explode.]

You can always go get a room at Camp Whitegrave; that's snow and ice year round.

[Another box. But only to hide the squishy package inside. It's a bunch of fabric folded up inside shrink-wrapped plastic. Upon opening it, a trundle of blue, red, and yellow fall out of it. Look, if there's no All Might merch readily available in Noctium, who the fuck says he can't go out there and get it made?

Pajamas (or "relaxation wear" for those looking for a more mature description). Colored like All Might's costume, the outfit's composed of a zip up, long-sleeved shirt with pockets in the front and a yellow hoodie falling down the back (complete with V tufts at top), and a pair of pants with a faux "belt" tie sash and detachable slips at the ankles for a complete set.

Leave it to Katsuki to find a way to cheat regardless.]
