I will try ... [ no, he's not about to make a promise he's uncertain he could keep. in the end, he -wholeheartedly- is inspired by bakugou's shine, warmth, and strength. in the darkest hours, when he's among devils, and the cruelty of humans, denji will think of him, and with it comes the hope that he could win without losing himself. if he had to lie to his own heart and pretend that one day he and bakugou would reunite, whether it would happen in a few years or a decade, they would face each other again ... and he had to be ready. he had to be ready to keep his promise; stand proud and confident. a hero's goal is to save a life, right? well, that's one way to thank bakugou for everything he had done for him. to be better. to be stronger. to be saved. denji wouldn't let such kindness go to waste.

with a breath that trembled as much as his thoughts, he reached out, gently taking the other's hand, his thumb brushing the back of those knuckles before he pressed his lips with a tenderness that seemed to hold the weight of every unspoken word between them. his eyes closed, a moment of stillness overtaking him. when he straightened, his gaze lingered on bakugou's, a quiet gratitude passing between them, deeper than any words could convey. with more energy, denji's smile became bigger and more like his own. ]

Heh ... I only fight because I get paid. [ an honest confession, which made him chuckle a bit. he then holds his finger up, gesturing a 'but!' - ] However .... this city is growing on me now. I kiiiinda want to protect it. Even when we deal with shitty assholes all the time, working as cops, I don't want to watch those people turn into kaiju meals.

[ he leans into the side until their shoulders touch. ] What else did you get? Time to see who's more popular!
