Appearance

Katsuki is a Japanese teenager of average height, standing just under five foot eight inches (172cm), with a slim, athletic body, but a well-defined, muscular build. He has a fair skin tone and short, spiky ash-blond hair that sticks up in a puffy array of spikes (like an explosion) with choppy bangs that hang over his narrow, angled eyebrows. His eyes are sharp and bright red in color.

Due to his personality, he's generally either frowning or scowling in perpetual Resting Bitch Face, so even at first glance he doesn't look like a particularly friendly guy. Though when he does smile, it’s usually a cocky grin or the face of a crazed slasher ready to rampage. People have noted it’s rare to see Katsuki’s “soft” expressions. Thanks to weathering his Quirk’s explosions all his life, the skin on the palms of Katsuki’s hands is tougher than the rest of his body.

Due to the impalement injuries he sustained during the Paranormal Liberation War, Katsuki was left with two mid-sized puncture scars on his body: one on his left shoulder and one on his lower right stomach area, both having entry and exit wounds. During his battles in the Final War, Katsuki’s right arm was badly torqued, the right side of his face was burned, and his chest was blown open, leaving him with twisted scars on his right arm, a burn scar on his right cheek, and a large burst scar plus suture scars in the center of his chest from each wound respectively.

At school, he wears the standard U.A. academic uniform: a long-sleeve, button-up white collared shirt, a gray jacket with blue-green stripes, and a red tie, all over a pair of dark blue-green pants. While the uniform comes with a customary red tie, he refuses to wear it. Beneath his blazer, he wears his shirt loose, with the top few buttons undone. He wears his pants loosely as well, causing them to sag at his ankles, despite him wearing a belt in them. He opts to wear a pair of gray shoes with no particular make or brand. After the Paranormal Liberation War, Katsuki opts to wear his school uniform in a much neater fashion and includes the red tie he previously forwent.

When training for physical education, Katsuki wears the U.A. P.E. uniform: a pair of dark blue pants with white vertical lines going up the legs, a dark blue short-sleeve shirt (long-sleeve variant in the winter) with white lines that form the letters 'U' and 'A', and a pair of white, laced sneakers. In his casual time, he tends to wear looser clothes, usually opting for dark-colored T-shirts or tank tops and simple-but-tough pants with sneakers, and sporting a jacket, scarf, and boots when winter weather comes around.

Katsuki’s hero costume is composed of a tight, black, sleeveless tank top, with an orange "X" across the middle, forming a V-neck. There are two dots along the upper part of the X’s left side, indicating the support company that designed his costume. His costume also has a metallic U-shaped neck brace worn around the back of his neck with rectangular ends that have three holes on each side. This brace also contains his collapsible Suppressive Heavy Mobile Unit: Strafe Panzer support gear equipment.

His sleeves are made of tight black material and rimmed in orange, starting at the middle of his biceps and covering down his arm into his large grenade-like gauntlets. These Grenadier Bracers gauntlets are green and striated like normal grenades and even have large, functional silver priming pins and handles attached to them. The “top” of the grenades open to allow his hands freedom to move, and he wears a pair of green and orange gloves for both grip and protection.

His belt, which also carries grenades, holds up his baggy pants in addition to green straps around his waist and thighs. He also wears a pair of pointed metal knee guards, below which he sports black, knee-high combat boots with orange soles and eyelets. His mask is jagged and black, and as it goes around his eyes, a large, orange-rimmed flare shape protrudes from each side, creating an “explosion” around his head in obviously reference to his Quirk.

In the winter months or in colder climates, he wears winter hero costume a form-fitting jacket with a high collar rather than the usual tank top, and wears tight pants under his normal baggy pants, so he can still sweat a sufficient amount and thus keep his Quirk active in chilly weather. This jacket retains the same orange "X" design as his tank top.

While interning under Best Jeanist, the Fiber Hero attempted to teach Katsuki the importance of maintaining a positive appearance. To that end, he took the liberty of making some changes to Katsuki's outward appearance to make him look less intimidating. During this tenure, Katsuki’s wild spiky hair was combed into a neat side part, and Best Jeanist made added changes to Katsuki's Hero costume; he got rid of Katsuki's mask and grenade gauntlets and had him wear a pair of smart blue denim jeans in place of his usual baggy pants. None of these changes were kept after his internship.

During Mission: Humarise, Katsuki and his fellow internees at the Endeavor Agency were given special advanced stealth costumes by the World Heroes Association for their mission to Otheon. Based on the winter variant of his costume, Katsuki designed his stealth costume to be all neoprene black with the exception of his usual orange "X" across his torso, the soles of his boots, the palms and underside of his gloves’ fingers, and a few other orange accents. He retained his metal kneepads and his metallic neck brace, which had two holes on each side instead of three. His Grenadier Bracers were redesigned to be shaped like flashbang grenades rather than frag grenades and his belt traded out grenades for dynamite-like containers. He also had two silver plates on his shoulders with the letters "WHA" and two orange-lined straps coming down from his neck brace with a red button on the left. The stealth costume also possessed a hood themed after his hero mask, pulled to a low point over his forehead and spiked out the back in several orange-lined flares.

Katsuki is a young man of above-average height, with a slim, muscular build, and a fair skin tone. He has short, spiky, sandy blond hair with choppy bangs that hang over his eyebrows. His eyes are sharp and bright red in color.

During his time in Aldera Junior High School, similar to Izuku, he wore a plain black gakuran uniform with yellow buttons, accompanied by brown loafers. While at home, he wears a green jinbei over a white shirt and gray sweatpants.

At U.A., he wears the standard U.A. uniform without the customary red tie, a few buttons undone at the top of his white collared shirt, and his pants are worn loosely, sagging at his ankles, despite him wearing a belt with them. After the Paranormal Liberation War, Katsuki's school uniform is worn in a much neater fashion and includes the red tie he previously forwent.

His hero costume consists of a tight, black, sleeveless tank top featuring an orange "X" across the middle, creating a V-neck design. There are two black dots along the left side of the collar, which is the trademark of his costume's designer, Sasori Nimaru[8][9] The outfit includes a metallic neck brace with rectangular ends, each having three holes on either side. He wears black sleeves that extend from large, grenade-like gauntlets up to his biceps, finishing with thin orange tips. A green and orange belt, equipped with grenades, secures his baggy pants that have green straps and knee guards. On his feet, he sports black, knee-high combat boots with orange soles, eight eyelets, and straps at the top. His mask is jagged and black, with a large, orange-rimmed flare shape protruding from each side around the eyes.

Best Jeanist also made changes to Katsuki's Hero costume; he got rid of Katsuki's mask and grenade gauntlets and had him wear a pair of smart blue denim jeans in place of his usual baggy pants.

In the winter months, he wears a large jacket with a high collar and four orange eyelets on the collar and two on each shoulder, rather than the usual tank top, although it does maintain the same orange "X" design, the purpose of which he can still sweat a sufficient amount in the cold weather, given how his Quirk works.

Due to the injuries he sustained during the Paranormal Liberation War, Katsuki has two scars on his body: an impacted one near the base of his left shoulder that stretches to his clavicle, and one on his lower stomach area.

By the time of the Final War, Katsuki now wears his Winter Costume to maximize his sweat production, increasing his need for condensed explosions from his nitroglycerin. During his final battle against Tomura Shigaraki, he utilizes a support gear called the Strafe Panzer, which consists of six barreled heavy cannons and two shoulder-pad smaller cannons as aim sights; the cannons are loaded with a belt feed containing nitroglycerin stored in each capsule, giving Katsuki more sweat ammunition or for bigger explosions.

In the fight, the Strafe Panzer is destroyed and his right arm is badly crushed by the villain, while the right side of his face is heavily scarred. After a near death experience due to his heart being ruptured by an attack from Tomura, said hole now has a suture scar thanks to being resuscitated back to life by Edgeshot. To mend his broken right arm, All Might gives him his remaining equipment from his Armored All Might suit, the "Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight", acting as a splint.

In the aftermath of the battle, Katsuki's right arm became heavily scarred much like Izuku's, and despite the surgery is unable to move it again. Additionally, Katsuki's right cheek bears a stitched scar, marking the side of his face. He reverts to his standard hero costume, now modified with a long black sleeve that envelops his entire right arm and shoulder. During his remaining school years, Katsuki was able to rehabilitate his right arm until he was able to move it again, restoring its normal functions.

Eight years after the end of the Final War, Katsuki has grown taller, more muscular, and leaner. His hero costume still retains the same design as he wore from U.A., but the Grenadier Bracers have been redesigned to be more streamlined, giving them the shape of smoke grenades instead of the usual grenade design, featuring silver sights fastened to every knuckle. In addition, he wears two braids at the back of his head, designed to look like lit fuses.
